Bible Belt
Hello, friends. In case you’re wondering what this is, I’m cookin’ up my very first full-length album, being released under Horton Records. It is called Bible Belt, based on experiences and people living in my good ol’ home state of Oklahoma. I’m very excited to be working with such a solid lineup of musicians and friends, including Cody Clinton, Roger Ray, Dylan Aycock, Rachel La Vonne, Scott Bell, Dylan Layton, and even more. It’s hard to convey how much your support will help, but let me try…I CAN’T DO THIS WITHOUT YOU.
What you should know
About me, quickly: My name is Kalyn Fay Barnoski, but I go by Kalyn Fay to weed out all the mishaps that happen when you’re Native American and have a polish last name. I am Cherokee, born and bred in Oklahoma. I am currently in my master’s program at The University of Tulsa for Graphic Design, with a little printmaking, as well. Music keeps me moving. I write sad songs, but I like giving hugs.
The album: I have been playing and writing for a few years now, both with others and without, and I feel like it is finally time to have something to hand people when I am on the road or at a show and they ask, “Hey, you got a CD?” So, I have been recording this album for over a year now, working with Dylan Layton on the tracking and, just recently, Scott Bell on mixing. It has been amazing to see the process progress and I think the result is going to be something magical, thanks to some really talented friends. It's a lot more ambient than when I play solo, but still retains a folky, singer-songwriter undertone about it. I am happy to say it involves a full band, too! The super rockin' awesome musicians involved are: Cody Clinton, Dylan Aycock, Dylan Layton, Roger Ray, Kevin Warren-Smith, Rachel La Vonne, Jordan McLeod, Erin O’Dowd, Kurt Nielsen, and maybe even a few others!
Where the money goes: What your money is going to is exactly what I am advertising, the album and all it entails. It helps me pay my musicians, pay for tracking, mixing, mastering, cd production, and merchandise for all ya’ll kids to wear around or give away. No amount will go unused.
Why I need your help
Here’s the dang truth that most of us creating deal with when we have this sort of project: we only have enough to get by. Between working and going to graduate school, I don’t have an excess of time or money. I’m happy with this truth, but I would really love to have this album as something I can share with people and that means I need a little more than just getting by.
I am not a well known artist with lots of exposure, but I’m doing the best I can with what I have. Thanks to you all and your kindness in caring for my music, I have been able to not only play all over Oklahoma, but on tours throughout the Midwest, as well. These opportunities have matured me and seasoned me more as an artist and this album is the next step! Many of you have walked beside me, seen me grow and change, and this album is definitely a representation of that. I hope that you can join me in this process because it would mean a whole heck of a lot to me to have friends, families, and listeners show their support.
I have some options listed, if you’re the perks kind of person. They involve anywhere from digital downloads to a silkscreen printing party. If you’re not a perks person, there is also a “contribute now” option. Honestly, whatever you contribute helps. In this sort of thing, a little goes a long way and I am thankful for anything.
