Why We're Here. Help us expand our food waste reduction technology from an existing orange peel plant in Mexico to a new wild salmon processing plant in Alaska.
This is the first time our diverse technologies have come together under one roof to create an effective process to recover wasted food materials.
What You Get. We have just established our first operating partners with a citrus plant in Mexico. This means we can guarantee your reward - our delicious and nutritious 100% Non-GMO Orange Peel Powder. No other orange peel powder made by conventional dehydration has the same nutritional value as ours.
Your pledge will directly impact low-income areas by creating new jobs while also providing highly nutritious food resources through our unique recovery of “leftovers.”
Orange peel contains a variety of goodness, including 10 times more Vitamin C than juice. It also has 10 times more beta-carotene than orange juice as well as valuable bioflavonoids such as rutin, hesperidin and d-limonene.
Actual Orange Peel Powder in Package.
Contribute now and you will receive individual, sealed ½ lb-225 gram packages of our Orange Peel Powder. The more you pledge, the more you receive. It has a multi-year shelf life when stored in a sealed container in a cool place.
What We Can Do With Your Support.
We are seeking $75,000 (U.S.) to fund a verification for a major waste recovery project to dehydrate wild-caught salmon .
The "Alaska Salmon Recovery Project" will be our first aquaculture venture. Based on our initial success with citrus peel, it will allow us to focus on the thousands of tons of highly nutritious salmon “leftovers” associated with the Alaska fishing industry.
The plan is to establish a micro preservation process at a facility location in association with Native Tribe corporation(s), beginning with a verification this will allow us to then scale up, growing into a full capability operation. As we expand and the local populace becomes trained, we will transfer the operation to complete local ownership. During the verification period, we will intensely document the operation's build, process and results. Including independent analysis of the operation and its final output, amazing nutritious salmon powder. Our intention is to then distribute the results and in association with major manufacturers roll out the process in multiple locations worldwide.
I Initial tests reveal processed salmon retained high nutritional values.
The above chart represents the proportion of allocation of funds for the project
With your help we will say; "Together we initiated, raised necessary funds, changed attitudes and started a movement that will re-purpose thousands of tons of salmon by-products per year, which is enough to provide protein to millions of people!"
What We Do. Our sustainable food recycling technology for agriculture and aquaculture products uses unique preservation, dehydration and milling technologies. We train food processors to set up and use our technique to bring you nutritious and delicious foods.
Sustainability is a buzzword. We, however, have several direct improvements over traditional preservation techniques, plus we are less expensive to build and operate!
The System/Process
Our process relies on our proprietary protein preservation coating, combined with our unique interaction of relative humidity, temperature and air flow. This means we are able to preserve the highest possible levels of vitamins and minerals. Conventional gas and electric heat drying methods result in cellular damage and “burn off” of valuable vitamins and minerals.
Our 3 steps to achieve closed-loop for food and drink manufacturers:
Why Us? Our system has many benefits, including that the dehydration process could be powered by solar or wind energy systems. Systems start at a very low cost, which means they can be easily used by both smaller agricultural producers and large industrial food and beverage producers.
Science. The foundation of our technology is based on nature itself. Simply stated, we start with a natural protein coating that encapsulates and protects natural food sources. This allows us additional time for a non-invasive preservation approach. We provide a controlled environment to establish a precise relative humidity, defined air flows, and specific processing placement that will provide exact conditions for a careful and gentle removal of moisture from the source material. The moisture that we remove is recoverable and potable. The resulting dehydrated product is shelf-stable and can be fully rehydrated by simply adding water.
Here is a short overview of the facility in Mexico that produces our Orange Peel Powder.

PLANT OWNER TESTIMONIAL. "At Citro Des we are proud to be pioneers in the use of the new and unique dehydration method being utilized by NewfoodZ. It is so much more efficient and fits with our goal of using a 100% natural process for dehydrating our orange peels products. This eco-sustainable process presented by NewfoodZ has proven to be extremely effective in its 'gentle' heat-free approach for preserving our citrus peel material." - Arnoldo Pena
Risks & Challenges
There are always risks. The key challenge is time. We estimate it will take 12-18 months to achieve the appropriate exposure for big companies to adopt our process. Additional risks are that we may not reach our full Indiegogo goal, and therefore our project moves slower than we desire, or due to accidents or illness team members may not be available.
Risk Offset
We mitigate time risk by already having experience with the existing plant in Mexico. In addition to this campaign, we are also actively pursuing private fundraising. We are moving ahead with our own continued investment. This is a life choice for us. A shared knowledge base is already being built, so that the knowledge will be available for all. Specifically, we are bringing players from the local areas of planned production to assure that the knowledge base is appropriately transferred and enables independent operation.
Even if we do not reach our goal we can make headway because we are already committed to the project. We also are promoting our new process with a sweet potato partner and readying launch of an apple pomace project in the UK.
Our team all has experience with start-ups and overcoming challenges as they arrive.
