Our Film
Nico Queen - After the night of her first performance, a closeted drag queen accidentally runs into her father while in pursuit of nicotine at a convenience store. There, she must choose whether to remain in the closet or reveal her true identity.
Who We Are
Hello! We are a group of student filmmakers at Montana State University in Bozeman. Media representation of queer culture is severely lacking here in Montana. Through the erasure of these identities, respect and recognition of them can be depreciated. Nico Queen was written as a celebration of the Drag scene that many do not know is thriving here in Bozeman. Nico Queen illustrates that queer communities are strong and flourishing everywhere. This film will represent the joy, love and strength found in queer communities across the country, while also addressing the complicated family dynamics that members are often confronted with.
Impact
In making this film, we want to give back to the community that we are representing. We would not have Drag as an artform, as a stronghold of the queer community or as a beautiful form of expression if it were not for trans women of color. Thus, we will be holding screenings of our films with a sliding scale entrance fee that will go entirely to Transvisible Montana. Transvisible Montana is an organisation that promotes awareness and education on issues affecting trans, non-binary, and two-spirit Montanans. Any funding that we do not use when producing our film, will also be donated to Transvisible Montana.
Budget
This film will take some support to make it happen. We have set a fundraising goal of $1,500 to cover the cost of our actor’s costuming and makeup, and food for our crew! If you are as excited about this film as we are, please donate to us any amount that you would like to give. Anything helps.
Costumes & Makeup: 700
Drag is nonexistent without makeup, outfits, wigs and so much more. We want our drag queens to look and feel gorgeous.
Food: 500
No one should work on an empty stomach, feeding our crew is an essential part to making our film and making sure no one is hangry.
Equipment Rentals: 200
Drag Queens need to look good honey! In order to display the art-form of drag to the best of our ability we want the best equipment to show off our queens.
COVID Safety Protocol: 100
Our production’s top priority is safety. To ensure that our cast and crew remain COVID-19 free we will be purchasing covid-tests, masks, disinfectant, and sanitizer.
