Papetura is an
adventure, point&click puzzle game in the fantasy world
made entirely of paper.
Once in a while, the light reaches the paper and awakens the world. Guiding Pape & Tura you will discover the paper world, with all its hidden mysteries waiting to reveal themselves, covered with paper-darkness. During that journey, many obstacles and creatures will arise, accompanied by a considerable amount of riddles and puzzles to solve!

There’s
an opportunity to
encounter a tapeworm in the demo! It contains the intro and the first chamber that
you can explore. This is only a small part of the game, the size of which will suffice for more than 2 - 3 hours of gameplay.

Throughout the whole game, you have to control a main character,
Pape, and take care of his friend,
Tura.
Papetura is a world where everything can be alive.
There are monsters in the darkness waiting for you with different
intentions. During
the journey, a bird covered with flames awoken by the light will cross your path. You’ll
soon find out that the purpose of your journey is not only to
survive, but also to save the world from the
devastating power coming
from the fire of a merciless creature.

Our inspiration from the world of adventure games are great titles such
as Neverhood and Machinarium, also film productions of studio Ghibli.
These works have something in common and that is to create a new magical
world, which is a worthy thing to follow for us!

Puzzles and obstacles encountered on the road will be primarily related to the situation. At the beginning, you
have to find a way to escape from the bowel of a monster that has
just swallowed you.

Apart from main puzzles, on the way we meet classic mini puzzles molded in the world, made in same techniques as the rest. This design follows such classics as Neverhood (1996), which still inspires us to create this type of adventure game.

All we have is one small room and the desk, but it doesn't stop us from work!
Paper
forms the whole construction of the Papetura world, it begins on paper and ends with a paper composite. Each element of the scene is made of it, even water. After a long process of bonding, the world becomes animated by light and is transferred to the game through photography. Every detail counts and is designed to reflect the architecture style of Papetura.

The most important feature of the paper for us is that it takes the color of the light as clothes, at the same time makes it airy and gently. Therefore, the biggest challenge is to make paper model and light work as a whole. It is a time-consuming process, but worth the end result - a realistic fantasy paper-world.
The process of making concept, programming, design and coding took us four months of full time job. Most of the time we made mistakes, trying to figure out how to animate paper, how to code in Unity engine and how to get the best result from photography. After this campaign, we are ready to continue the work!

Music used in the demo and trailer is
"Saturnin Fire And The Restless Ocean" and "Forget-me-not" by Floex - Tomas Dvorak. His avant-garde approach to sound perfectly reflects the delicate nature of the paper. Will Floex create the soundtrack? The project attracted his attention, but the fate of the soundtrack is not certain. Tomas is a very busy artist, so the
decision will be made in mid-year.

Completing the game
without your financial support has no
chance. This is the first major game for studio and it
needs working long
hours. The grants will be used primarily for software licenses,
materials, rewards, hardware, and maintenance costs. Also, a possibility
for Tomas Dvorak to
compose the music for the game will disappear along with the failure
of this campaign.

Petums is a small, independent game development studio in Poland. We have developed a few flash games since 2008 ( e.g.
Mosquito & Cow ). When in 2014 Tomasz Ostafin completed his Master's project entitled "Architecture As Game", he decided to enlarge the size of the games that will be created in the studio. After a hopefully successful fundraising campaign for Papetura, the team will grow. Until then, it consists of:
Tomasz Ostafin - a dreamer, game designer. He
makes animations, graphics and code for the game. Fresh graduate in Architecture, is now looking forward to create a fantasy world made entirely of paper.
Pawel Adamczyk - a forest walker, sound effects designer. He’s
responsible for making all the sound effects for the
game.
