Overview
Can you match tree planter generosity? 100% of all donations support communities on Pemba Island, Tanzania to restore lost forests and develop innovative responses to climate change.

You can still donate by choosing one of the matching options listed on the right!

Check out our fundraising thermometer below to see how your donation helps us reach our BIG goal!

Match a grassroots movement to fight climate change.

Every spring, Canadian tree planters prove that there is hope in the face of climate change.

Not just by planting trees, as important as that is, but by acting in solidarity with people halfway around the world who struggle with climate change every day.

In partnership with Community Forests International (Forests Intl.), hardworking young Canadians are raising funds for Pemba - a threatened island off the coast of East Africa.

Pemban communities are fighting climate change by restoring their forests and so much more. Canadian tree planters are giving their hard-earned wages to support this hopeful mission and we are asking you to match their generosity.

Supporting people directly affected by climate change to take bold action is one of the most important things that we can do to help.

Please consider joining this effort by giving a portion of your day's earnings to Pemba and help us grow our impact!

Every dollar raised goes to Pemba, times four!

Every dollar raised goes directly to Pemba. Campaign partners Brinkman and Associates Reforestation have generously covered the overhead costs for this fundraiser so 100% of your donation supports on the ground work in Pemba.

AND every dollar raised is multiplied by four. Forests Intl. worked hard to secure a partnership with the Global Climate Change Alliance that effectively quadruples all funds raised for Pemba. Now we need your support to maximize this great opportunity.

Our shared challenge.

Climate change affects us all, just not all equally. Finding common ground, matching one good act with another, and sharing in the hard work of positive change is how we build a more hopeful future. Please join us!

Changes in rainfall, sea level rise, and warming are negatively impacting Pemba Island.

Your donation supports innovation.

Forests Intl. fights climate change by empowering rural communities to thrive with nature. Funds from this campaign will help Pemban communities pursue forest innovations including mangrove restoration, spice forests, community land rights, and more.

Mangrove Forests

Working with nature to build resilience to climate change.

Mangove forests hug Pemba’s coastline, surrounding the island with a “bioshield” of trees that live half on the land and half in the sea. Their strong interlocking roots hold soils in place against waves and flooding and provide important habitat for fish and other wildlife.

Mangrove forests are a nature's defense against rising seas but are threatened globally. This year, Forests Intl. will launch a mangrove restoration program in Pemba and work alongside five coastal communities to replant and conserve mangroves in areas affected by illegal cutting.

Spice Forests

Can we have our conservation and eat it too?

Our team helps farmers innovate by combining spice growing with forest restoration. A "spice forest" is a jungle of trees and vines all producing edible spices – things like cinnamon, black pepper, cloves, and cardamom – in a way that is both profitable and resilient to climate change.

The spice forest program is quickly growing and now involves over 100 farmers! This year we will help farmers expand and market their produce by establishing a fairtrade cooperative and building an R & D nursery to grow special trees and new spice varieties.

Community Forests

Empowered communities are the restorative force that world needs.

Forests Intl. has transferred over 100 hectares of land to community ownership to date. This land security is crucial for rural communities – empowering them to make long-term decisions about how their land and forests are managed and protected.

This year, Forests Intl. will help six new Pemban communities gain legal title to their community land and support investments in climate change resilience efforts like forest protection and restoration.

Forests Intl.'s tree planting roots.

Community Forests International was founded in 2008 by four young Canadian tree-planters.

We believe that people around the world can innovate their own solutions to some of the toughest challenges. And when we find a solution that really works, we are committed to giving communities the tools and training they need to get it off the ground.  Together we change the world.

Forests Intl. is a registered charity and all donations of $25 or more will receive a charitable receipt.

For more on Forests Intl. and the communities we work with visit  www.forestsinternational.org and follow us on Facebook.

Thank you!

A big thanks to all the tree planters that make our work possible, and to Brinkman & Associates Reforestation for covering the costs associated with this fundraiser. Tuko pamoja - we are together.

Bag Up!

Currency Conversion $25 USD

Highballer

Currency Conversion $216 USD
$300 CAD
In tree planting speak, those who plant the most trees are called 'highballers'. Because tree planters are paid according to how many trees they plant, highballers also earn the most. It's not uncommon for a highballer to make $300 in a day, and then give it all to Pemba. Are you a highballer with a big heart?

The Whole Crew

Currency Conversion $721 USD
$1,000 CAD
For logistical reasons, tree planters are organized into crews. Crews work somewhat independently of the larger tree planting camp; they ride together, share the same supply of trees, and cover the same area of land. Occasionally an entire crew will pitch in and give all of their collective earnings to Pemba - and when it happens it's huge!
