Lauren and I believe that all children deserve parenting that is free of physical and verbal aggression. Empathy, mutual respect, positive discipline, healthy attachment, and proactive parenting are the building blocks to raising emotionally strong, resilient, happy children.
Short Summary
My name is Pia Mattix Davis, I am a mother of two, and in May of 2017 I became fed up with the Facbook Groups targeting Black American men and women. In these groups, I noticed that there was almost a fanatical fervor with which members suggested and condoned physical and mentally aggressive behavior. As a Black American mother who does not spank, I was frustrated with the groups available to me and decided to start a Facebook group, a safe space for other Black mothers who do not spank.
One year later, Black Mom. Positive Parenting. A Nurtured Child, formerly Positive Parenting for Black Moms, has close to 8,000 members. The group has evolved from a safe space, to an education piece. I and a team of 17 administrators and moderators who are committed to parenting our children with respect, empathy, proactive parenting, healthy attachment, and positive discipline support mothers, and now fathers, at various stages in their parenting journey.
Please Help Us Help More Parents
Lauren Shelton, one of my first moderators, and I want to become certified to Parenting Educators to teach Positive Parent to other Black moms.
- Lauren and I need $4,000 to travel to Stamford CT to attend a 4 day training session from October 13-16, 2018
- The $4,000 will cover two training sessions, Teaching Parenting the Positive Discipline Way & Positive Discipline in the Classroom. The raised funds will cover our round-trip airfare from the airport nearest our respective homes to NYC, round trip train travel to and from Stamford, CT, Four Nights of lodging at the Marriott Hotel, where the training will be held, and food.
- If we do not reach our goal, the money will go towards me taking only the Teach Parenting the Positive Discipline Way in Austin, TX July 28-29, 2018. If that goal is not reached we will use any money raised to start a podcast to help further the Positive Parenting message in the Black Community.
Our Pledge
Everyday Lauren and I encounter Black Moms who understand the physical and mental dangers of spanking children. While our FB group has changed lives over the last year, Lauren and I know that we can become more effective with proper training and the use of resource materials to guide us. We want to move from supporting mothers, to teaching mothers how to parent without physical and verbal aggression.
- We will continue to serve the members of Black Mom. Positive Parenting. A Nurtured Child.
- Once trained we will offer free and lost cost support in our communities through workshops and community classes.
Please support us in our journey!
