Location:
Located just north of "Sinharaja" World Heritage Rainforest which is the last virgin Rainforest left in Sri Lanka, this 15 acre Rainforest acts as an important bio-diversity corridor between Sinharaja and the smaller Delwala Rainforest to the north. The region is habitat to more than half of the native flora and fauna of Sri Lanka and is a natural wonder and a bio-diversity hotspot. Once extending throughout the Wet-zone of Sri Lanka, the Rainforests are now just a fraction of its former range.

Who We Are:
We, Rainforest Protectors of Sri Lanka (RPSL), is a volunteer environmental organization registered under the Central Environmental Authority with a mission to protect the last remaining Rainforests of Sri Lanka. We engage the people of Sri Lanka to protect the Rainforests through various initiatives such as native tree planting projects, education and awareness among villagers, and curbing deforestation through jointly working with law-enforcement officers.
Project:
Many unprotected lands surrounding Sinharaja Rainforest that were once part of a bigger Rainforest complex a few centuries ago are currently being sold and converted to Tea and Palm Oil plantations. These lands still contain virgin Rainforest millions of years old, but they are now at the mercy of new landowners who take no time to clear-cut the rainforest.
Therefore, we have embarked on an ambitious project to purchase and protect these last Rainforests in private hands and to create bio-diversity corridors between the surrounding fragmented rainforests and the Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest.
Once created, the bio-diversity corridors will help promote genetic diversity by facilitating the movement of endangered wildlife, such as the Purple Faced Leaf Monkey, Sri Lanka Leopard, Barking Deer and many bird, amphibian and reptile species.
Rainforest Protectors of Sri Lanka has identified suitable forested land for this project and constantly monitors availability of new land suitable for the bio-diversity corridor. Land will be purchased under a Trust for permanent protection of the flora and fauna.

Below is a satellite map of the Sinharaja World Heritage Rainforest (at the bottom) and fragmented Rainforest patches that have been clear-cut to the north. Currently a 15 acre virgin Rainforest on sale in the area "Fragmented Rainforest" is available for US$ 35,000 (see above photo). We are urgently raising funds to protect this beautiful rainforest from destruction as there have been offers to clear-cut the rainforest to grow tea. We are negotiating with the owner to buy and protect the land and will need to raise required funds before end of January. It would be a great loss if these Rainforests that are
millions of years old and contain unknown species to science are
destroyed.

The Impact:
- 100% of your donation will go directly towards purchasing and protecting the 15 acre Rainforest currently on sale
- If we fail to raise needed funds to purchase the currently available land on time, collected funds will be used to purchase land in the future towards the same project in the region.
- Creation of the bio-diversity corridors will be critical to the long-term sustainability of Sinharaja Wolrd Heritage Rainforest and will ensure safe passage to its inhabiting wildlife.
