Punk Rock Flea Market
The Punk Rock Flea Market was just two weeks away from opening at the Lusty Lady building near the Seattle Waterfront. The place was punk as f*k, but there was no plumbing, no working electric and holes in the floor. We sunk all the cash we had into making it safe for vendors and shoppers.
Then the Seattle Fire Marshall told us to shut it down. We’d never done so much work on a venue before, but the show was over before it could start. A typical Punk Rock Flea Market can draw 2,500-4,000 people over a weekend, and the Lusty Lady was given a maximum occupancy allowance of 49 people. There were 150 vendors signed on for the May event alone. There was nothing we could do. The show was cancelled.
Thanks to the kind people at V2 on Capitol Hill, we have a great new venue for the Punk Rock Flea Market on June 25 and 26, and most of the vendors, bands and DJ's who had committed to the Lusty Lady gig will be able to participate. But we dug ourselves into a financial hole at the Lusty. The money we spent on building supplies, on printing, on permits and insurance is gone forever. For the first time ever, vendor fees alone won’t quite cover expenses so we are trying to raise just $2500 - the amount we lost at the Lusty - to bring the PRFM up to the low (but safe!) standards we've come to expect.
