Rebuilding the Thapa Family Homes
The devastating earthquake in Nepal has taken over 4,000 lives, injured more than 8,000 and destroyed countless homes. Two of those countless homes belong to members of my host family, the Thapas.
In 2012, I lived with the Thapa family for 4.5 months while studying abroad in the Kathmandu Valley. Their generosity and kindness during that time were unlike anything I've ever experienced and now they are in danger. My host sister, Kaveeta, moved to her new husband's house after I left Nepal. She is 8 months pregnant and the earthquake completely destroyed her and her husband's home. The rest of the family lives in the home where I stayed, and the house also suffered significant damage--they are currently sleeping in a tent in their field as they cannot re-enter the building.
I heard from my host brother today. He said they are scared about what's going to happen to their family and how they will survive. It breaks my heart to hear him sound so afraid. I decided to help in as best a way as I can by launching a fundraiser to help my family rebuild their homes.
The funds raised will go directly to my family and neighbors in need, many of whom are extended family. Please help me support these caring, strong, incredible people who are in an unthinkable situation. Any amount donated is extremely appreciated!
Please reach out with any questions; I am more than happy to share stories and updates.
Love, Madeline
