Refugees United was established with the goal of bringing together refugee artists to share their story with the world, break social stigmas and be the voice to fellow refugees who are not heard. These powerful artists from around the world exemplify how they have transformed their situation to become active contributors to society, who truly add value and collectively define culture.

The aim behind holding a fundraising event is to be able to produce the exhibition, I Am Human, focusing on breaking the stigma of what it means to be a refugee, using art as a platform for expression, understanding, and change. In addition to the exhibition, we’re making a book that will showcase the artists’ work and journey. This book will be a useful artifact in communicating personal stories, inviting readers to view the world through the lens of art and humanity.

Like many of you, we’re disheartened by the political and social climate and how it’s dividing not only our country, but the world. We believe in the power of art to heal, communicate and inspire. Now more than ever we feel it’s time to come together, open dialogue, fight for what we believe in and show the beauty in our unique stories and cultural differences. We believe we can touch the core of humanity through empathy and action.
