Me and Bees
I'm Richard. I've always lived in cities and know very little about keeping livestock, growing my own food or acting to promote biodiversity. But last year I took on allotment, and have since gone mad. I now grow dozens of different fruit and veg, and earlier this year I rescued some ex-battery chickens, and am giving them a happy retirement while my family enjoy their eggs. My allotment is my little agrarian paradise.
Now I'd like to start beekeeping. I'm doing this because:
- I've been frightened by the huge decline in bee numbers
-
Because I love the idea of learning something new and
- To be frank, I love honey, and would love to have my own, and to share it with others
How You Can Help & What You Get
I don't have much spare cash, and it's not cheap to get set up, with frames, extractors, bees and protective clothing. The investment required is likely to be at least £500, and the tangible return will be in honey, over the coming years. So why not crowdfund it and share the future honey!?
Here's the basic deal:
- I'm asking for minimum contributions of £10, or multiples of that
- Each £10 investment will get you 2 jars of honey, delivered to your door
- If you invest £20, then it's 4 jars. If you invest £30 then it's 6 jars, and so on
- You'll be helping in the fight to protect the bee population
- You'll benefit from the product of those busy bees!
- I'll also keep all investors regularly updated on the progress of the hive, with pictures and reports, so that you fully share in the journey from acquiring bees to sweet stuff on your toast
Risks & Challenges
Crowdfunding has a proud history of never going wrong. Ever. That said, there's an obligation to explain what could go wrong, in a parallel universe. Let's think then:
- I don't yet know how to do beekeeping. I'm booked on a course and have bought a book. Trust me?
- When I do know how to do beekeeping, I imagine I'll know about diseases, mistakes I could make and so on. I'll do my best to avoid the pitfalls.
- I suppose there's ultimately a risk that I won't manage to achieve any honey. If that's how it turns out, I'll return your money. I'll take on the risk of complete disaster - You'll send money, which I'll turn into honey, or I'll give you your money back.
I love the idea
But I don't have any money, or
I'd like to help you Richard
But I can't stand honey
If you really can't contribute that doesn't mean you can't help:
- Please help me get the word out - share this on social media, particularly around Cambridge, and help me reach £500
- Don't forget to use the Indiegogo share tools
Many thanks in advance
Richard
