Why We Were Here
Roger Henderson passed away in the early evening hours of July 29, 2011 from liver cancer. We started this campaign to
raise funds to cover Roger's funeral expenses, which were approximately $2,500.00. Roger's wife, Diane, was diagnosed with cancer shortly before Roger's death and began undergoing daily
radiation and chemotherapy the week that he died. Although her treatment was recently completed, she still unable to work as she continues to heal. You helped us to reach our goal to put Roger to rest with
dignity, love and respect and we thank you from the bottom of our hearts
for your graciousness and generosity. His memorial service was standing room only and Rog would have been
overwhelmed by the show of friends who came to say goodbye and to remember
him.
Now that our goal has been met and this campaign has concluded, all future
donations made through Roger's official web site (www.rogerhendersonmusic.com/donate.html) will be set aside for the future of his daughter, Galen
Henderson.

About Roger
Roger was a staple
on the Washington, D.C. music scene. An award-winning singer-songwriter,
Roger was one of the area’s most active and respected artists. Roger’s
multiple talents earned him parts in opera and Broadway productions, as
well as gigs opening for Jonathan Edwards, Livingston Taylor,
Schooner Fare, and many others. In addition to performing in
concert halls, clubs and coffeehouses, Roger worked for many charitable
organizations, including producing and performing in shows for terminally
ill children. Roger released several albums of original and traditional
material. His song Penny To My Name was recorded by the late Eva Cassidy, who also contributed backing vocals to his recording of After
You've Gone. Roger had a warm
heart and an amazing talent. His death leaves a hole in the close-knit
Washington music community. His musical legacy is a rich one, and his
songs will live on and continue to bring us joy. We thank you for
honoring his memory and his talent by helping to lay him to rest.
