S-her-lock: The Web Series is a feminist, LGBTQIA positive, independent television
series based on the characters and stories created by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.
Set in 1995, we see Sherlock Holmes become an asexual British woman who
dwells in New England after a bad spell. Alongside Sherlock is of course her
friend and colleague of four years, Dr. Johanna Watson, a transwoman and
former army doctor. Residing in Portland, Holmes and Watson are firmly under
the thumb of their landlord, Mr Hudson, who is a local drag queen.
raised $6000 to produce our pilot episode. The amount of support and coverage
we received heartened us greatly, and in March “The Voguing Women” was
filmed and produced.
We went on to premiere the episode at 221B Con in Atlanta and FlameCon in New
York. Further encouraged by the amazing reactions we got from our viewers, we
are determined to make season one a lively and engaging adaptation.
Why does ‘S-her-lock’ exist?
As a production team, we are a mixture of gender and sexual identities. We
simply want to see ourselves represented on the screen, and in a way that details
that while our sexual and gender identities are important to us, it’s not purely
who we are.
We wish to highlight and scrutinize the treatment women of all kinds
face in the modern era. With Sherlock as an asexual cis woman and Watson as a
bisexual transwoman, we can aptly show discriminations and prejudices that
they must overcome daily in their lives. We chose the 1990s as we believe it is a
terrific lens for focus on these issues; distant enough so that we can make an
accurate period piece, but modern enough to strike relevant chords with our
audience.
We’re huge Sherlock Holmes fans. We all found something about
the Sir Arthur Conan Doyle stories that was personally gratifying to us. At the
forefront of our minds is always the ACD canon, and we wish to deliver a faithful
adaptation but reinvented for a hundred years forward in time.
What’s Next?
We are currently producing season one of ‘S-her-lock’. There will be four
episodes in addition to the pilot, narrating the lives of Holmes and Watson as
they face challenging and unique cases adapted directly from ACD’s material.
Our season one episodes feature four other stories from the canon:
-
The Adventure of the Resident Patient
A young doctor with a secret to keep seeks out her old friend Watson for advice on her crankly landlord.
-
The Adventure of the Devil’s Foot
A Forced Family Retreat is interrupted by a family murder.
-
The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton
Holmes is persuaded to take on New England’s most prolific blackmailer.
-
A Case of Identity
Dr. Watson’s online friend appeals to Holmes for help in order to find her missing lover.
#MaximizeOurMoney
We are super excited to create this adaptation. We have complied a budget based
on the expenses of our pilot, and we need your help to implicate it for the season.
So we can create our webseries, alongside paying our cast and crew, we need
$25,000 in donations.
The budget for this series has been carefully made and gone through several
revisions and considerations. We originally planned to shoot six twenty-minute
episodes; but we have cut to five so we can offer deeper storylines and better
quality of work. Furthermore, we are firm supporters of nurturing local talent.
All of our actors are from the New England area, and we have enlisted the help of
local businesses and agencies to create an unique New England style.
Paying our cast and crew is extremely important to us as a production, as we feel
strongly about the merits of independent television giving back to those who
contribute their time, energy and devotion. Of course, there is also the standard
production costs involved with independent television to consider: wardrobe,
props, equipment, travel, and most importantly, feeding our cast and crew on
set!
