What We're Doing
Salty Girl Seafood offers a line of sustainable, traceable seafood products that are portioned and pre-marinated to make choosing and preparing seafood easy. The brand and product line disrupts the seafood industry, bringing a fresh face and innovative product line to the consumer.
Salty Girls
We are Norah and Laura, two salty girls that have logged over 1,000 days at sea working in the fishing industry, and have lost track of the number of days spent on the water sailing, surfing, diving, kayaking, and more. We love fish: seeing them, swimming with them, catching them, studying them, and – most importantly – eating them!

Why We're Doing It
A 2012 study found that 1/3 of all seafood sold in the US is mislabeled. That means that the fish you are eating at your favorite restaurant or buying from your local grocer may not be what you (or they) think it is.
Why should you care? Because:
- You might be paying more for a lower quality product.
- You don't know how fresh or safe that product is.
- You have no way of knowing whether your fish meets sustainability metrics that help ensure the long-term sustainability of our oceans and the fishing communities that rely on our ocean's bounty.
The traditional supply chain is old, and highly fragmented, meaning mislabeling can occur at any step of the way - either intentionally or unintentionally. Chefs, restaurants, grocery stores, and consumers are all the victim of seafood fraud!
We Need YOU
We have fishermen ready, and chefs waiting - now we just need the capital to start-up this business! We need $50,000 to cover:
- expanding our network
- start-up costs
- the design and launch of our web-based market place
With your help we can buy our first Salty Girl Seafood fish and start selling to chefs so that you can have sustainable, traceable, and fresh seafood in your favorite restaurants!

The Impact
Nowadays, it's easy to be confused about whether you're buying the "right" fish. We are inundated with marketing campaigns and certifications and with rampant mislabeling... how do we know who to trust?
Salty Girl Seafood takes the pain out of the decision-making process when it comes to purchasing seafood.
All of our products are sourced directly from the fishermen who caught them and we work only with small-scale fishermen that harvest using sustainable practices.
Providing traceability information allows the chef, seafood manager, and end consumer to know how that fish was caught, when it was caught, and exactly what species it is, eliminating the possibility of fraud.
At Salty Girl Seafood, we believe that everyone has the right to accurate information about their seafood products. Shortening the seafood supply chain is good for the fishermen, the chef, and the consumer.
