My roommate was on a job for a phone company when a little golden puppy walked out from under the house he was working on. She trotted right up to him, tail wagging and with a sweetness that would make anyone smile. Anyone, that is, except for the old lady whose house this little lost puppy found herself living under. The woman just casually said, "If you happen to accidentally step on that puppy, just do it extra hard. We want her to run away." Shocked at this off-the-cuff cruelty, my roommate took the lost little pup with him rather than let her stay in such a place.

That's how Penelope (or "our little found Penny" for short) came crashing into our lives. She's a sweet, energetic puppy who, while young, was already housebroken and loving with everyone who came in contact with her. She played with everyone around her at all times (including our two cats), yapping happily and showing a youthful enthusiasm that brought a smile to everyone's face. With all strays and rescues, however, comes the possibility of disease from lack of care. And that came as swiftly as she did into our lives.

About two weeks back now, she started to grow lethargic and stopped eating. A visit to the vet told us that she had a mysterious cyst growing on her leg that was sapping her strength. She's been at the vet for a few days now and we just got the call that without aggressive and expensive treatment, she might not last the night.

We've scrounged together the down payment for Penny's treatment, but we're asking you to please help us 'save a Penny.' She's a beautiful and kind puppy that has made our lives astonishingly brighter considering her youth and the time she's been with us. No creature this bright and joyful deserves to waste away quietly in the night. We are eternally grateful for anyone who is generous enough to give Penny a chance at a happy life!

(Any and all money will go to Penny's current emergency situation and any vet visits she'll have to make in the future.)
