We are asking for your help. Throughout the school year, we run an outreach program that sends artists to schools to do workshops and concerts, allowing students a dynamic and alternative educational experience of art and music.

This time, we want to bring the students to the artist in a lovely professional venue (instead of their regular shows in a school gym)! Project Humanity is bringing singer-songwriter Khari Wendell McClelland to Regina for a very special performance of Freedom Singer, a new theatrical concert inspired by the remarkable journey Khari took to retrace the steps of his great-great-great grandmother Kizzy. Using contemporary styles like hip hop, funk and soul, Khari has personalized the songs that likely accompanied Kizzy and thousands of others as they escaped U.S. slavery. In sharing this music, Khari is brought face to face with his own "unrecorded" heritage, and the realities and myths of one of our quintessential historic narratives: The Underground Railroad.

As part of Black History month, the lessons of The Underground Railroad fit perfectly into school curricula. The schools we've approached are thrilled to have the opportunity to take their students to this production yet they are woefully low on the funds to do so. That is where you come in! We need your help to get the students to The Artesian on February 15th for a special matinee feature of Freedom Singer. There is the chance here for incredible, effective learning. Be a part of making it happen by sponsoring a student or group of students to attend.

The Regina Folk Festival is a non-profit and a charity. We run our Outreach Program on the donations of people who see the benefit of supporting additional arts programming for Regina's young community.
