Social Socials along with St. Lukes Roosevelt CCC/The NiteStar Program asks for your help!
The NiteStar Program began their friendship with Margaret Boogere the caretaker of The Orphans Club after we adapted their story to stage from Rory Kennedys documentary film, Pandemic: Facing AIDS in 2003. As a company we were touched by the strength the children had living with HIV and AIDS in the face of stigma, poverty and other insurmountable odds. Every year since, NiteStar has sent a donation of clothing, shoes and other gifts to the orphans. In order to send these items we must raise over 2,000 dollars in shipping costs. On May 19th Social Socials assisted us in hosting a Relief Jam. It was an evening filled with a variety of performances. We collected lots of clothes and about 400.00 but are still far away from being able to ship the clothes to the students in Uganda. We need at least 1,000 dollars to ship the clothes and if we raise 2,000 more we can also send the students shoes, something many of them have never had before.
The Tororo Orphans Club currently is sponsor to 150 students either infected or affected by the HIV epidemic. Many of them have become to primary care givers in the family after loosing the older generation to HIV/AIDS. The Orphans Club provides shelter, support, clothing, food and a creative outlet to their affected students in Uganda. They do this almost entirely through donations. In a country where approx. 130,000 of the people infected with HIV are children they need our help! Please find it in your hearts to donate $1, $2, $10 to our cause. If a lot of people do a little bit, we can make a difference in the world.
Founded by Dr. Cydelle Berlin twenty two years ago, The NiteStar Program is a special project of St. Luke Roosevelts Center For Comprehensive Care and uses a theater based model incorporating drama, music and peer education to help guide pre- adolescents, adolescents and young adults as they confront the many challenges of growing up in the age of AIDS. Productions are all original, created by the members of the company. They are culturally appropriate and age-specific, designed to diffuse myths, provide HIV/AIDS awareness, pregnancy, substance abuse and relationship violence prevention, help youth to make informed decisions, provide options for changing attitudes and prejudices, and create opportunities for behavioral change.
Social Socials is an organization built on the idea that helping people should be fun and enjoyable. We are entirely volunteer-based, from top to bottom. Our operating costs are typically minimal due to the fact that we work in large part in donated spaces with extraordinary talent that donate their time. No money raised goes into our own pockets, but instead goes straight to the causes for which we are celebrating. It is our goal here not only to do as much good as we can for the world, but to provide an avenue for everyone to give or to do just a little to better the state of human kind. Our purpose as people is to help and provide for one another so that our growth as a global society is constant and shared. The purpose of Social Socials to to make sure that we enjoy it.
