Who are we? What are we about?
Spider on a Bicycle is a new local start up run by sisters Hollie and Emma Petrie. Hollie has years of experience in the cafe industry, and has worked in both Edinburgh and New Zealand, as well as the Aberdeen favourite Foodstory cafe. When Emma's redundancy became apparent earlier this year the pair decided to strike out on their own, and Spider on a Bicycle was born.
Their aim was to create a warm welcoming space to be enjoyed by members of the community and visitors alike, very much inspired by New Zealand cafe culture. Alongside their passion for homemade food created using fresh ingredients, supporting small local business is a central part of the cafe's ethos.
Emma's extensive experience in logistics and project management is invaluable to the business, and together the pair complement each other to form the perfect team. The business secured it's finance six months ago and has since been working to their pre-planned budget... however as anyone who has developed a project will know, no amount of pre-planning can predict some unforeseen costs.... This is where the crowdfunding comes in.
Why are we crowdfunding? How could this benefit you?
To cut a long story short... The price of our coffee machine has increased significantly since we set the budget, added to greater than anticipated costs for the installation of our wood burning stove, this is proving to be a difficult hurdle to overcome. We are very reluctant to compromise on the quality of the coffee machine we are buying, as this would ultimately result in a lesser quality product for you, the customer. Both the coffee machine and the stove are integral parts of the cafe and key to making it the best place it can be. Other methods of finance were not available to us, and we have chose to crowd fund to get the community involved in our project.
Of course, we're not asking for something for nothing, in thanks for contribution we're offering 'perks', or rewards. These range from free coffee, to discounts, and even free hire of the cafe for you and your friends!
Given the overwhelming support that we have had on social media and local word of mouth, we are hopeful that our crowd fund campaign can be a success, and that the community can help the cafe to achieve it's full potential.
We understand that not everyone is fortunate enough to be able to contribute, but we would love it if you were able to share what we are doing with those you know... and if you are able to support we are happy and thankful!. Looking forward to seeing you all in the cafe come November.
Thanks!
