About STARS and the Founder
My name is Anicia D. Brown and I have been performing, costuming, choreographing, directing and/or producing, and teaching for over 40 years. I've been fortunate to direct at the Regal Opera Company, Euless Summer Musicals, Rhythm Nation Performing Arts, Grand Prairie Community Theatre, Starlight Friends, Inc., and Yokota Players – Tokyo, Japan.
Previously I served as the Artistic Director for OnStage in Bedford and as the Performing Arts Coordinator with the City of Euless where I taught theatre classes. I've also taught at Tarrant County College NE’s College for Kids, Spring Garden Elementary, Saint Vincent’s and The Center for Home Education.
After moving from Texas to Charleston, SC, I became involved with my new local theatre and spent time on stage as Truvy (Steel Magnolias), and Flounder (Disney's The Little Mermaid) while also building out the theatre’s classes and serving as the Education Director. Rekindling this love for teaching has led me back to roots I grew in Texas: owning and operating my own theatre school.

The Impact
Our mission for Starlight Theatre Arts & Repertory School (STARS) is to help children of all ages flourish and become their best selves through theatre and performing arts by instilling teamwork, leadership, responsibility, respect, and above all, grace and kindness.
Working in theatre and performing arts goes far beyond getting a part or learning lines. It builds confidence and communication, prepares for public speaking and interviews, and brings empathy to the forefront, which is something I believe is missing in today's world.
In Texas, I owned and operated Starlight Performing Arts Theatre & School, where I produced over 50 full-scale productions and dozens of recitals, concerts and special events, and was named a Woman of Influence by the Fort Worth Business Press in 2005. This business model works and is self-sufficient once the productions are in full swing, but we cannot get to that spot without some help getting started. Receiving the support to get through our first year will guarantee youth this opportunity for years to come!
