We are pretty sure you were singing those words as you read them. We were too. As young kids in the 1970s and early 80s our favorite show was SESAME STREET - we sang our 1-2-3s and learned our A-B-C’s. We wanted to live on that street… hug Big Bird and see inside Oscar’s trash can. We totally didn’t understand that there was a message in the fun we were having, that the show’s goal was to make us smarter, stronger and kinder.
But now we are adults, and some of us parents ourselves, and we’ve felt and seen the impact that SESAME STREET has had for decades on bolstering preschool education and of course children’s television. And we want to know more. How did this show begin and why? Who was responsible for bringing it to life? Where did the ideas come from?
Our documentary, STREET GANG, will examine the the origins of the show we all grew up with and love through the eyes of those that experienced it. Based on Michael Davis’ New York Times bestseller Street Gang, we are going to tell the tale of Joan Ganz Cooney, the creator of SESAME STREET, Jon Stone, the original director, and of course, Jim Henson, who brought his unique creativity to the show. ![]()
The three “Js” came out of the 60’s with the mentality that they could affect change in the lives of kids and have a blast along the way! To honor the legacy of SESAME STREET, we want to create a documentary that not only offers an historical account of show’s early days, but also one that INSPIRES, EDUCATES, and ENTERTAINS.

FAQ: About Street Gang
Q: Is this film being done by Sesame Workshop or The Jim Henson Company?
A: No, we are independent filmmakers, but we do have the cooperation of both companies in the making of this film and access to their archives.
Q: Hasn’t there already been a Sesame Street Documentary?
A: While there have been lots of amazing specials, and some films, done about Sesame Street and the people that created or worked on the show, there has never been a comprehensive documentary done about the origins of the show and its cultural impact.
Q: When will you shoot Street Gang?
A: We are currently in pre-production and will start shooting in the late Fall of this year.
Q: When will the movie come out?
A: We are planning a late 2017 or early 2018 release.
FAQ: About the Campaign
Q: Why aren't you paying for Street Gang yourselves?
A: We have funding to make a movie but not the best movie we can make. In order to truly create something in the spirit of the show we need additional dollars to execute all the creative ideas we want to do: original animation, 3D photo conversions, orginal music and of course, trying to rebuild that Season One set!
Q: Is a studio running this Indiegogo campaign with you?
A: Nope, we are a bunch of independent producers trying to make this campaign run and we appreciate your support and patience. Tell us how we are doing and we will listen and respond!
FAQ: About the Perks
Q: When will I get my perks?
A: On each perk we have done our best to estimate when we can fulfill them and get them to you so please refer back as needed. Because we want to get you your perks as quickly as possible you may get your perks in two shipments, with the later shipments containing for example, if purchased, the film BR and CD soundtrack. We will always keep you posted on the progress.
Q: Are all rewards available in all countries?
A: Currently we will say the answer is yes for items that need to be shipped or digitally downloaded. If you purchase a perk that is an experience please know that those all are happening in the US and attendance would be based on the purchasers ability to travel to, and stay in, the US, at their own cost to claim.
Q: How will you know where to send my perks? What happens if I move before you send out the perks? How do I change my address?
A: Once the campaign ends, we’ll give you more details about how to get your perks, change your address, tell us your preferred perk details, and so on.
Q: What happens if I give you money for these perks, and the movie never gets made, or it never comes out?
A: If something keeps us from making the movie, we’d still send you any perks that we’re able to produce. For perks that we couldn’t produce on our own, such as digital downloads, or DVDs, we would issue you a partial refund for the part of your contribution that would have paid for the perk.
Q: What if I want more than one perk package (or standalone perk)?
A: You can make multiple pledges on Indiegogo using a single account. Just make sure you use the same email address and login, so we’ll know that all of your perks are meant to go to the same person.
Q: What if I want one of the perks, and it’s sold out?
A: Act fast! You have to move when you see what you want! So, contribute now. If possible, we'll increase the number of a few limited release perks and we’ll be adding a few more awesome perks throughout the month. So, stay tuned.
Q. Is my perk purchase tax-deductable?
A: No but thanks for asking! Your contribution to the campaign goes toward the making of the film and your perks. The filmmakers will be responsible for owning and making the charitable donation.
