Student leaders taking action against violence
Meet Cash, Gloria, Rachel, Luis, Molly, and Courtenay. These six students have seen how some parts of their campus culture harm students in unintended ways - and they want to change things for the better. Individually, they are committed activists. Together, they are Breakthrough’s inaugural class of Fellows.
College should be a place where students thrive. But when gender-based violence impacts so many students, they don’t get to fulfill their potential. Sexual assault, rape, violence or harassment motivated by perceived gender or sexual identity, relationship violence, or stalking have no place in our communities–or on our campuses.
At Breakthrough we refuse to accept gender-based violence as an inevitable fact of college life - and our fellows agree. We believe in the power of student leadership to create culture change, and we’re harnessing our 17 years of experience in the fight for human rights to equip a new generation of changemakers.
Now, more than ever, we hope you will support student leaders whose bold collective action will deliver irreversible impact on the issue of our time, creating a world in which all people live with dignity, equality, and respect.
Check out the video to learn about these six fellows–believe us, they are seriously inspiring. They have the ideas, the tools, and the plans for action. With your support, their actions have the power to transform campus culture and reframe the way gender-based violence is understood in college life.
Their hard work and creativity will culminate in six iconic, disruptive actions that will take place at Bates College, Brown University, Davidson College, Marist College, Rutgers University, and University of Michigan–by the end of the spring semester.
