After 7 years in an abusive relationship, I was faced with a kill or be killed situation.  With great regret I took my abuser's life and served almost 15 years in prison for it.  While there, I met quite a few women there for the same thing.   Others were there as an indirect result of some form of trauma brought on by domestic violence, in one form or another.  

During my incarceration I became aware of the lack of preventive information available to women of all ages about the many facets of intimate partner violence; what to look out for, responding correctly to the uneasy feelings we get when "something isn't right", keeping silent only fuels the abuse, and the knowledge that we teach others how to treat us.

I founded B.W.A.R.E.-Battered Women's Awareness Reaching Everyone, Inc-out of the passion of teaching women of all ages how to recognize, avoid and safely escape the dangers of domestic violence.  Donations will be used to cover the costs of speaking engagements, resource literature and crisis intervention as a woman contacts us when she's ready to escape, or just needs to talk about it.  We have counselors, attorneys, a moving van and movers on hand to get them to safety, at a moment's notice.
