About us
We are the Extreme Sports Club Scorpio, from Zenica in
Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Edin Durmo, is the founder of the Club. Together with his team, he works as a guide on
the mountains of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Backcountry skiing, mountaineering,
sports climbing, canyoning, hiking are his specialties.
The nature of Bosnia and Herzegovina is wonderful. Its
mountains are wild and untouched. Even if they are not too high, they present a
unique environment, which has not yet been discovered by mass tourism.
However, Zenica, where Scorpio is based is one industrial
city in the centre of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Unemployment, the legacy of the
conflict in Bosnia and Herzegovina, poverty are all problems affecting Zenica.
These problems are aggravated even more by a difficult environmental situation,
which is caused by a huge steel works company, which is polluting the
environment of the city.
Why we need your help
Scorpio is a Club responsible towards its community. Edin
dedicates parts of his free time training young mountaineers, who are members
of his club. In the city, he has built a climbing wall in a public school,
where twice a week, the members of the Club can learn and train rock climbing.
Having in mind the difficult situation of Zenica, Edin created
its own sports center. It is in a hilly area called Smetovi, 400 meters above
Zenica, away from the pollution and fog.
This has become Scorpio Educational and Sports Center. It
serves schools, clubs, NGOs, boy scouts, who have now a unique area to be in
touch with the nature and develop outdoors and climbing skills. The Centre is
also a training ground for the BIH Mountaineering Federation. The main feature
of the Centre is its Adrenaline Tower a 12 meter tower with numerous climbing
routes of all levels, both leading and top rope.
The center was build from Scorpio’s own resources. We are
now planning to expand and repair the climbing area, which was damaged by the
bad weather and harsh winters.
We have already started working, but we need your help to
complete this tower. Besides repairs, we are building a special climbing area
for children who take their first steps on the rock. This is going to be the
ideal escape for the youth from Zenica from the pollution and grey concrete in
the city.
We need your help to complete this. We calculated it is
necessary some 12,000 Euros to renew and expand the tower, any amount you can
give us will be of great help. We will be really thankful for this.
