Who We Are & What We Do
Established in 1999, Taiwanese Culture Night (TCN) is an annual cultural production that aims to promote Taiwanese culture within the UCLA community and beyond. A story written, directed, and produced exclusively by students, TCN discusses and educates its audience about current social issues that are prevalent in Taiwanese society. TCN is a special performance that comprises of acting, a cappella, Taiwanese pop music, and behind-the-scenes work. Besides its purpose to spread Taiwanese culture, TCN also provides an opportunity for students to showcase their talents in various forms that include finance, marketing, stage design, and leadership. After countless hours of preparing and rehearsing for the show, all cast and crew members of TCN wish to provide their audience an unforgettable night full of tears and laughter.
Taiwanese Culture Night 2016, upholding its legacy from previous years, brings attention to a neglected group of people in Taiwan: the LGBTQ community. The story this year focuses on issues that arise due to the clash between homosexuality and traditional Taiwanese family values. By depicting the story through the lens of politics and social media, Taiwanese Culture Night 2016 wishes to portray a love that has no boundaries or sexual limits.

The Impact
As people that are proud of their traditions and culture, we strive to promote more awareness and understanding of Taiwan to the UCLA community. In a humorous and entertaining way, TCN will bring the Taiwanese culture to the audience.
Our production last year was a success, drawing about 500 audience members. This year, we hope to increase the number of attendees to 600 while continuing to offer free admission.
What We Need
Our production costs nearly $20,000 this year, and with funding from UCLA being limited, we need your help! Besides our plans to hold other fundraising events, our goal is to reach as much as we can here on Indiegogo to cover part of the cost. Your donation, whether it is $1, $5, or more, will help us present a spectacular performance. Your help will go towards:
- Freud Playhouse rental at UCLA
- Professional stage and audio technicians
- Advertisement materials (i.e. program booklets, flyers, posters)
