OUR PROJECT

Tactile Dinner Car, the Futurist-inspired, mobile gastro-performance that premiered at the 2011 CapFringe will make a pit-stop at Flashpoint Gallery this September …and during activation dates, we'll dish up playful portions of our “daringly interactive meal-like extravaganza” (WashPost) to tantalize all five senses!

Tactile Dinner Car encourages audiences to embark upon a one-of-a-kind sensory and gustatory journey by returning to the art of play. The project celebrates whimsy and self-satirizing humor as it subtly addresses a growing obsession with food and other culinary trends.

Conceptualized by banished?’s Artistic Director Carmen C. Wong and hand-sculpted by Technical Director Niell DuVal, the design of Tactile Dinner Car is a re-imagining of the kind of Futurist car Marinetti would build. The car draws inspiration from the Bugatti that helped found Futurism, Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion Car, and Ernest Trova’s Falling Man sculptures.

The Tactile Dinner Car exhibition is free to view during Gallery Hours (Tu-Sa, 12-6p) from September 9 to 24, 2011. Admission to attend the show during activation dates require the purchase of AEROTICKETS or Basic Tickets.

ACTIVATION DATES ARE ON:
Fri 9/9 > 6:00pm | 6:30pm | 7:00pm | 7:30pm
Sat 9/10 > 2:30pm | 3:00pm | 3:30pm | 4:00pm

WHAT WE NEED

We need daring diners who'll donate! Support the production by purchasing AEROTICKETS here at IndieGoGo to unlock a premium Futurist experience of the culinary offerings! (A portion of all Aeroticket contributions will be tax-deductible.) Aeroticket holders enjoy special dining perks including a Tactile Dinner To-Go Survival Kit

Curious diners also welcome! Purchase $25 Basic Tickets here (non-donation) to experience this food-art hybrid performance which include new menu items such as "TERRiOR" and "Pop Culture" that aim to inject play into the daily act of eating.

WHY YOU SHOULD GIVE & HOW ELSE TO HELP

The Tactile Dinner Car is banished? production's most ambitious project yet! As a small but growing collective, we have plans to continue creating site-specific and culinarily-relevant versions of the show, and hope to bring it on the road to tour. Your contributions will help us fund the building and maintenance of the car, pay for our super-talented performers and collaborators, and assist us in our food research and tour plans. Invest in avant-pop today!

Or you could give us your gift of gab. Help spread the word of our campaign!
