OUR PROJECT
Tactile Dinner Car, the Futurist-inspired, mobile gastro-performance that premiered at the 2011 CapFringe will make a pit-stop at Flashpoint Gallery this September …and during activation dates, we'll dish up playful portions of our “daringly interactive meal-like extravaganza” (WashPost) to tantalize all five senses!Tactile Dinner Car encourages audiences to embark upon a one-of-a-kind sensory and gustatory journey by returning to the art of play. The project celebrates whimsy and self-satirizing humor as it
subtly addresses a growing obsession with food and other culinary
trends.
Conceptualized by banished?’s Artistic Director Carmen C. Wong
and hand-sculpted by Technical Director Niell DuVal, the design of
Tactile
Dinner Car is a re-imagining of the kind of Futurist car Marinetti would
build. The car draws inspiration from the Bugatti that helped found
Futurism, Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion Car, and Ernest Trova’s Falling
Man sculptures.
The Tactile Dinner Car
exhibition is free to view during Gallery Hours (Tu-Sa, 12-6p) from September 9 to 24, 2011.
