ABOUT THE 7th FLOOR:
The 7th Floor is a short film about a dystopian overpopulated Earth. In this time, women are required by the government to take birth control pills. Unfortunately the mass-produced pill was never perfected and a majority of women still experience side effects. For some this means mood swings and/or body tremors. For others these side effects include extreme mental deterioration, also called Hysteria.
Our story begins with Jo staging an act of Hysteria. She wants to give the Officials a reason to admit her to the government operated Hibernation Home in order to reach her partner, Tapping Girl, aka Sheila, who was previously taken in. Hibernation Houses are the Official's way of watching over women either having difficulty taking the pill, or refusing it completely. It is their way of controlling the women population, brainwashing them into perfect obedience.
Jo has a plan to break the girls out of the home and regain control of their lives and bodies. Will they make it out?
This story explores government control over women’s bodies and stigmatization of mental health. We are referencing a long historical context of birth control experimentation and disregard for women’s health to tell an exhilarating story in a fantastical, but relatable world.
ABOUT SKETCH PLATFORM PRODUCTIONS:
What began as a simple homework script assignment in college turned into the possibility of realizing a larger product. Jonathan Bragagnolo, a cinematographer, and Kayla Farris, an actor, decided to combine their skills to create their own original work. They gathered a group of filmakers who are passionate and talented in various fields to form Sketch Platform Productions. We give up and coming artists the ability to work in a professional environment telling the stories we are passionate about.
The 7th Floor is Sketch Platform Production's second short film. It is a non-union production that will operating under professional standards.
WHY WE NEED YOUR HELP:
Filmmaking is very expensive. Production cost alone take up most of the budget. Jonathan and Kayla have been saving ever since their last production EXIT in order to fund future self-created works. We are a company that focuses on creating a platform for emerging artists to learn, try out skills, as well as showcase their best work to the industry. We want to be able to provide the most professional experience as possible and compensate cast and crew for their dedication, hard work and skill. Where will your money go you ask?
- Food for three days of filming
- Transportation for cast and crew to get to filming location
- Location and equipment rental
- Pay for cast and crew time commitment
The majority of our cast and crew are emerging actors and filmmakers who are giving up their time to create quality work to represent themselves. By funding our project, you are enabling a variety of artists to progress in their chosen field.
