Hello! My name is Rob White, and I'm a Vice-President of the HMS Hood Association. I'm also an independent film-maker, with my colleague Andy Jones. We want to make a film honouring HMS Hood and the ultimate sacrifice made by 1,415 of her crew on the 24th May, 1941 - through the extraordinary story of the recovery of her ship’s bell.
I was Executive Producer and Voyage Co-Ordinator on four documentaries about Hood, including three centring on the discovery of her wreck in 2001. That was when we found the bell. But we had agreed to “look but not touch”, so it took new agreements and two more voyages to bring it home.
We want to mark this great achievement with a special film about Hood, to include footage of the bell recovery and restoration, and interviews with veterans and key figures in the project.
Andy and I are 'Maritime Films UK', so this is our kind of project! See our films at www.maritimefilmsuk.tv/
We would be most grateful for any help you can give. Any extra monies beyond our £2,500 target will go to support the Association's work.
Please spread the word - and let’s give HMS Hood and her ship’s company the film memorial that they deserve.
