The Bikeraft Guide - What Is It? A Book and...
This community multi-media storytelling project will ultimately result in a comprehensive book on bikerafting (history of, stories from the most well-known bikerafters from around the world, and a how-to section). But, along the way we'll share audio interviews through our new The Bikeraft Guide Podcast, plus photos and stories on @TheBikeraftGuide Instagram page and on the Four Corners Guides website & blog. Our goal with the IndieGoGo Campaign is to raise $22K through pre-sales of the book and "Perks" donated by our sponsors. This will pay for printing, distribution, contributors and editing. We're really relying on you – aspiring bikerafters and people who love great adventure stories – to help us make this dream a reality.
What We Need: $22,000
The funds will be used to pay the 20+ contributors, the editor (Eben Weiss of "Bike Snob"), and to get the book printed and distributed.
What You Get
- A signed copy of the book!

Why This Book?!
- Because Steve "Doom" Fassbinder is co-authoring it. An early adopter of bikerafting and owner of the only North American bikerafting guide service, Doom is one of the most knowledgeable bikerafters in the world.
- Because Roman Dial is writing the foreword, contributing an adventure story, and has been interviewed extensively for the history section.
- Because it's full of inspiring stories by the most experienced and renown bikerafters in the world: Doom, Huw Oliver, Kim McNett, Bjorn Olson, Brett Davis, Roman Dial, Annie Lloyd-Evans, Deane Parker, and Liz Sampey, Eric Parsons, Roman Dial, Jonathan Kennett, Jason Magness, and more!
- Because it includes a deep dive into some serious adventure history. We chronicle bikerafting's oldest missions with photos & interviews, from Roman's 1st "Hellbiking" missions in the '80s to the Lost Coast Tours in the '90s to Doom's dastardly desert adventures of the '00s, & beyond.
Because this book will help you reimagine your bikerafting adventures! Use this How-To Guide & accompanying videos to learn the skills you need for utilizing bikes & boats to discover less-traveled waterways in your own backyard or the wildest, most remote landscapes of the world. Check out our How-To videos on Vimeo and YouTube.
Why We Hope You Will Support the Book!
We don't have enough cash to publish this book yet. More than a dozen outdoor industry sponsors/advertisers helped us get started, paying for some contributors, marketing help and a down payment for the book's editor, among other things (Click here to see all our amazing sponsors!). But we still need cash to pay for printing, distribution, taxes and fees, plus to pay more of the contributors. BUT, we are confident pre-sales of our book and the amazing bikerafting-specific "perks" offered by our sponsors will get us to where we need to be.
Why We're Uniquely Positioned to Write This Book
- Steve "Doom" Fassbinder and Lizzy Scully own the only bikerafting guide service in North America, and Doom is a master bikerafter and storyteller.
- Lizzy Scully, the other co-author, has been in the outdoor industry writing and editing for 20 years.
- Eben Weiss, the author of "Bike Snob" and various other books, is also a long-time editor in the bike industry. He has the chops to edit a book like this, but also the wit to bring out the funny bits of our unusual, irreverent sport.
- Elizabeth "Liz" Sampey is not only a badass multi-sport adventurer, but also a marketing whiz. She is both contributing to the book and is helping with the marketing of the giveaway we've been running since November and the IndieGoGo Campaign.
