About the filmmakers and what we need.

• I am Dark Hoffman, a professional Visual Effects artist, matte painter and concept artist in the film and commercial industry. In my 30+ years experience I have helped create miniatures, props, sets, physical effects, digital visual effects and graphic art.
• This campaign is to raise money to create a professional one of a kind short fan film set in the Star Wars universe. To write and to direct a film for no profit or recompense, such as this, is a dream come true since seeing the film in 1977. We have a fantastic professional crew standing by including actors, crew, camera operators, set builders, make up, prop makers and visual effects.
• Every dollar that is donated will be right up there on the screen. We need your support to pay and feed these people and for the equipment and location to shoot with and on.
• We will be creating some old school visual effects to get that feel of the original Star Wars with miniatures, matte paintings and on set practical effects. We have a locked script, storyboards, location, concept art, costume designs and dedicated fans and artists ready to go!

What We Need & What You Get

• The amount of funding for this project is $35,000 for the look and professionalism we want to put into it.  Being in Los Angeles is a tremendous advantage for The Blood Crystal because we have the best film crew and location options in the industry in our backyard. The set will be Blue Cloud Ranch in Santa Clarita, CA which was originally built for the original "Iron Man."  It has everything we need for the look and feel of a real "Star Wars" film. The talent pool in Los Angeles area means that we will have top notch industry professionals for everything from visual effects, miniatures, set building, set dressing, camera equipment, sound, lighting, costumes, etc.
• You will be benefiting from all the incredible perks we have to offer and knowing you will be making many fans and filmmakers dreams come true! We have a camera crew but can't afford the cameras. Some people are donating their time but some are professionals that I want to pay to bring in. I have all the elements I need to craft a polished professional film, I just need your help.
• The perks for any of our backers are also one of a kind items including credits, props, set dressing, signed scripts and storyboards, lobby cards, artwork, digital downloads of the film and soundtrack, set visits, tickets to "The Last Jedi" and many more. A studio normally backs all this but now you are our client!
• Any funds raised will still be used to produce and create this one of a kind story. It will still get made with the same passion but, with your help, it will bring a more high quality feel. Being a non profit film and since Disney holds all the rights to the Star Wars franchise, we can only show this at certain film festivals, conventions and mainly online without receiving compensation but it will be among the best fan films out there and I guarantee it will produce a lot of buzz throughout social media and films fans everywhere!

Independent filmmaking has become more and more an incredible way for filmmakers to tell their stories without the constraint of a studio making the decisions. But we don't have the studios money so you can help make that happen by being a backer for a team of incredibly talented artists and help a small crew create something big. This isn't just about making a Star Wars film, it's about the art of film itself and the craft and passion that goes into it.

Having made short films in college and being in the film industry for over 30 years brings wealth of talent and knowledge to make a film set in the world that George Lucas created and pulling in people with the same artistic talent and love of this genre is something that can't just be appreciated but seen. We not only want to make this film for the fans but for everyone that has a love for film and adventure . We are very excited about this project and it will get made with your contributions. Risks & Challenges

There are always risks involved in making a film. What if we don't raise enough money? What if the location falls through? What if people start backing out? What if it rains? These are all valid questions and challenges, but as a filmmaker, we rise to the occasion to fulfill our dreams and find a way around any obstacle. With your help, I WILL make my movie and I can't wait to share it with you.
