After a successful film festival run, the team behind the award nominated short film Trapped are looking to create their next project. The Breakdown is a comedy about two friends whose car breaks down in the middle of nowhere, on the way to a wedding. The dry Australian outback is the perfect setting for anyone waiting for a tow truck, but Andie is busy trying to avoid a breakdown of her own while Rick regrets not having roadside assist.

Why Donate?
Supporting this campaign helps a whole cast and crew of artists who are passionate about their craft and creating amazing content for you. Your donation will help fund a variety of production costs including location, accommodation, food, art department and equipment hire. It will also give life to the film after it’s made by funding our film festival submissions, which is the best way for independent filmmakers to make their way in the industry. It’s an expensive process, but success at these festivals helps us find an audience and create further opportunities. If we surpass $3,500 raised, we’ll put every additional dollar towards paying the cast and crew, who are currently donating their creativity to make our project a reality.
Other Ways You Can Help

Meet some of the team
Writer/Director
Sheri Van Geest is an emerging female director based in Brisbane. Her last film, Trapped, premiered in New York at the Valkyrie International Film Festival and earned a Best International Short nomination. Its Australian premier was in Melbourne at the Setting Sun Film Festival. Sheri has been nominated for Best Director at the LA Independent Women Film Awards and a finalist placing for Best Emerging Female Director at the AFIN International Film Festival. The film’s lead actor Colin Smith also received a finalist placing for Best Australian Actor at AFIN.
Andie
Matilda award nominated actress, Zoe Houghton will be taking on the role of the hilariously sassy Andie. Since graduating from NIDA in 2002 she has become a Brisbane mainstay in the acting industry. Her recent credits include film projects such as Upright (Foxtel), Joe vs. Carole (Netflix), The Paul Hogan Story (Freemantle Media) and the critically acclaimed theatre production Boy Lost (Belloo Creative) with Queensland Theatre Company.
Rick
Our lead actor Jason McKell graduated from USQ in 2009 with a BA in Theatre Arts (Acting) and is currently a university lecturer at APAC. He has performed extensively both in Australia and internationally, and his comedic training with Commedia dell’arte instructor at Antonio Fava’s Scuola Internazionale Dell’Attore Comico in Italy, and Clown Master at Bont’s international school in Spain make him the perfect fit for the loveably disorganized Rick.
Community
Our project is a LGBTQ+ safe space with members of both the cast and crew being part of the community. Our film explores the complexity of one queer relationship falling apart while another blossoms and celebrates the real and raw platonic relationship between our female and male leads.
