Hello Friends! Thanks for checking out my campaign! I'm Shiva - a writer, artist, Priestess and Ordained Minister of The Satanic Temple. In 2020, just as COVID hit, I released my first book - The Devil's Tome: A Book of Modern Satanic Ritual. I was overwhelmed and encouraged by the support it received and the explosion of interest around ritual practice. It resonated with so many people during this time of uncertainty and chaos. Many of the questions I received from readers were around rituals for death and grief. During this time, loss was all around me, and I saw a need to create a resource for our community. Thus, I began my journey to understand how we, as Satanists, can embrace death and grief.

As non-theistic Satanists, I think we’re uniquely positioned to acknowledge and confront the topic of death. Many of us even have been captivated by it - we understand the frailty of our time on earth and commit to live full lives. We see death as an inevitable and ever present aspect of lives and don’t have illusions of an afterlife to comfort us. So what can we do to help us cope with the passing of loved ones? How do we comfort others? What practical steps can we take to prepare ourselves for the end of life? How do we maintain our body's inviolability and navigate the medical and funeral industry? How do we incorporate ritual into our Satanic death work?
The Devil's Death: Your Satanic Companion for Grief and Dying explores all of these questions and more. This one-of-a-kind resource was created to help Satanists navigate death and grief.

The Devil's Death: Your Satanic Companion for Grief and Dying is a revolutionary book that shares not only practical guidance and best practices, but personal experience. It brings together a number of creators to birth a unique resource that will benefit Satanists as well as the broader secular community.
In addition to serving as a Priestess in my community, I draw on my career in the healthcare industry which included patient advocacy, clinical-translational research, evidence-based programming, and creating programs to improve the quality of patient care. To further my knowledge and explore end of life tools and resources and be able to share best practices with the community, I became a certified death doula. Together, these experiences provide a practical foundation for the book. I wanted to create a book that would speak to our experience as Satanists, leave out the platitudes, and be honest about the often messy and controversial aspects of grief and death care. In addition to sharing my wisdom gained as a ritual practitioner, death doula, and healthcare worker, I will also share my personal stories about death and grief including how I have dealt with the deaths of my abusers.
Understanding the need for this book, I partnered up with Betty Lee, a PhD biologist, clinical-translational researcher, Satanist, and advocate for personal autonomy in healthcare. Facing a serious and incurable medical condition, Betty set out to plan for her own secular funeral but found insufficient resources. Together, we have embarked on a journey of self-discovery as we have crafted this book and explored the concepts of death and dying from a secular, Satanic perspective. I asked longtime collaborator Alexander Corey to bring his incredible artistic vision to the book, and community herbalist Heather Mourer of Hedgewitch Holistics to contribute a section on plant, potion, and herbal allies for death and grief.

The Altar Cloth

It's decorated with my sigil representing the power that comes from an acceptance of death and rebirth and the beauty that can be found within it. Heather Mourer contributes a section on herbal allies for death and dying in The Devil's Death, and this zine is a great companion. This zine can help you on your journey to stock your herbal medicine cabinet by providing instruction in folk methods for herbal teas, tinctures, infused oils, salves and more. In addition to step-by-step instructions on several herbal preparations, the zine also provides recipes for some of her favorite formulas. Once the book ships, you'll receive a digital download to the zine.
