I've been living in Los Angeles for 11 years and never driven the Pacific Coast Highway passed Santa Barbara.  Yeah, I know, shame on me.  Well, I've decided that the best way to see the scenic PCH 1 would be on a bicycle.  And so last week, I booked a one way train ticket to San Francisco, where I will begin the 490 mile trek back to Los Angeles on November 15, 2015.  By my estimates, it should take me 7-9 days to complete the ride.

Since I will be riding my thighs into oblivion, I figured it would be a good opportunity to raise funds for an organization that has helped me this last year in dealing with my father's passing:  The Didi Hirsch Organization (www.didihirsch.org).

“With more than 70 years of experience, Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services has 11 sites and the agency helps over 90,000 adults and children throughout Southern California each year.  Its Suicide Prevention Center--the first in the nation to provide 24/7 crisis counseling--receives over 55,000 calls on its 24/7 Crisis Line annually and provides support groups for people who have lost loved ones to suicide or have attempted it.”

I had never heard of Didi Hirsch nor did I ever think I would come to use such services before my own father's passing in August 2014.  I have attended a number support group meetings and it has provided me much perspective and comfort.  Most times, I drag myself to these meetings but afterwards, I'm always glad I went.

It's an organization that has helped not only myself but also hundreds of thousands of other Angelenos.  I urge you to donate any amount if you feel so inclined.  One hundred percent of donations will go to the Didi Hirsch Organization.  Thank you.

Chris

PS:  Unfortunately, there aren't any 'prizes or giveaways' but I will try my darndest to update those that are interested in following my ride to LA with pictures and Instagram posts.
