A portion of this campaign and the proceeds made on the film will go directly to Veterans charitable organizations.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder is a mental illness, which affects a disproportionately high number of armed services Veterans. With our feature-length documentary, The Face of PTSD, we’re looking to chip away at many of the misconceptions that surround this serious disorder. These misconceptions have stigmatized Veterans with this affliction, which has been downright harmful to the men and women who have suffered from their experiences in the military. In the film, we’ll provide an in-depth, honest look at the variety of experiences, different treatments and outlooks, which help these Veterans make their way in the world. We need to change the way we look at people suffering from mental illness. We need #treatmentNOTjudgement to be our rallying cry.

We realize that there are other
films about the issues surrounding PTSD. While many of these films have good
intentions, some have also had unintended
consequences. The most typical depiction of a Veteran with PTSD in mass media is a person who is violent or addicted to controlled substances. While this can
be true for some, the overwhelming majority of people who suffer from this
ailment do not fit with this description and should not be characterized this
way.
Our film will break down this
stigma by telling the story of Veterans who have or have had PTSD, but still
lead successful lives. While they still struggle every day with their symptoms,
they persist and fight to overcome their demons through a variety of different
avenues of medical, experimental, or personalized treatment. We will also seek
to highlight how the sensationalization of PTSD has created a barrier between
Veterans and treatment, and the ramifications that impasse. Most of all, we
will show that Veterans who suffer from PTSD are not people who we should
judge, walk on eggshells around, or be fearful of. Instead, we, as a society, need to think
differently about our cultural attitude towards mental illness.

Colin Wayne
Colin is a US Army veteran who was injured during a rocket attack in Afghanistan. Since leaving the Army in 2013, he has become a professional fitness model, an advocate for veterans suffering from PTSD, and an activist for preventing veteran suicides. Colin’s intimate familiarity with the disorder, and with what it takes (and means) to find success in the “real world” after seeing the horrors of combat has led to him partnering with Malka Media to work on The Face of PTSD.
A Driven Group of Millennial Filmmakers
The team behind the acclaimed documentary—and crowdfunding success twice over—Back in Time, Louis Krubich and Jason Aron have joined with Executive Producers Jeff Frommer and Dan Fried to tap Malka Media’s Derek Brown to direct the new documentary project: The Face of PTSD. Leaning heavily on Malka Media’s core production team of young, creative minds with experience creating content for major brands and broadcast networks, this group of industry professionals is ready to take on a subject of vital import to our veterans.

Backpacks for Life
Established in 2014, this nonprofit is dedicated to providing homeless and low-income veterans with backpacks filled with items designed to help them daily. The charity also works with veterans to help connect them with organizations and people who can provide housing and employment. Supplies and information on housing and jobs for vets are provided by donations and volunteers from across the country.
Soldiers' Angels
With the motto “May No Soldier Go Unloved” our charitable partner Soldiers’ Angels has gone about trying to make that sentiment reality since 2003. They have worked with hundreds of thousands of service members and veterans, providing them with a wide range of aid and comfort. Filmmaking is a difficult process, and there are a wide variety of issues which can arise during the production of a title. The key to avoiding as many of these pitfalls as possible is assembling the best production crew you can. Malka Media has some of the best, brightest young talent in the industry, including a seasoned production staff that’s been through the successful crowdfunding, production, and release of the documentary Back in Time.
Though there are always risks involved in media production, Malka Media Group has experience working 365 days a year, handling multiple projects, and slaying dragons as they rear their ugly heads. We do not anticipate there being any great odds that The Face of PTSD will run into which our crew of professionals can’t overcome.
And, of course, there’s the ultimate challenge all filmmakers face: can we assemble the documentary we’ve envisioned? We believe that with this production crew, The Face of PTSD will be every bit the inspirational look at what victory over PTSD can look like when we band together to protect our warriors after the war overseas is over and the war inside is just beginning.
