Overview
If you’re a coffee lover and are familiar with Eastern Washington, we hope you’ve had the pleasure of enjoying a trip or two to Indaba over the years we’ve been in business. If you’re unfamiliar, we’re big on community impact and have worked hard to not only curate spaces of inclusivity and belonging in each one of our unique locations, but also have always put people first with every decision we’ve made. We roast our own, love on people, and have a passion for giving back to the neighborhoods we reside in.
Who is Indaba
In case we haven’t met yet — we’re Bobby and Sheena Enslow. We’ve been operating as a husband and wife team since 2009, bringing on local employees and products as we’ve grown. Our aim, to begin with, was to create a space where neighbors could gather and feel welcome, and to offer top-notch, locally made goods. From the get-go, we wanted to make an impact on our local community, but didn’t quite know how we would make our dream come to fruition, or just how big we wanted Indaba to become.
Since then, we’ve put in years of hard work and have been able to provide various forms of local outreach ranging from financial support to coffee-based educational programs.To most, coffee sounds simple and small, but to us, running Indaba goes far beyond simply serving lattes. Our flagship shop opened in West Central; literally in our backyard, and we’re proud to say the location is still thriving.
Our team began roasting our own beans locally in 2014, and have steadily grown to include more neighborhood locations throughout the Spokane area, Tri-Cities, and Yakima.
Why We Need You
We’re growing up! Indaba is currently busting at the seams of our Roasting Plant, and our mid-range roaster cannot keep up with our demand. We’re eagerly awaiting a move to our newest location off Monroe; where we’ll have ample space for a larger roaster, a community area to enjoy each other’s company, and (of course) a beautiful and impactful café to bring to the Monroe neighborhood.
As much as we want to, we realize we cannot do it alone. If you’ve ever worked hard for something you truly believe in, you can relate to where we’re coming from. In tandem with this campaign on IndieGoGo, we’re continuing to reach out to those we know, potential investors, banks, and (of course) we’re squeezing out every penny we can fester as a business. In order to make this move a success, we need our community to rally alongside us, and are asking for support in a big way.
Community Impact
We already love Monroe, and are looking forward to seeing how our new location can add to the neighborhood’s offering and culture. More space means more community engagement, more jobs, and more opportunities to make an impact. We’ve taken pride in offering classes and education to those who seek it, engaging with local non-profits, and dedicating our free time to helping those in our neighborhoods in need. We see our Monroe location playing a big part in continuing to give back in every way we can.
Getting a larger roaster in our Monroe location’s warehouse means we can offer local roasting options to more local coffee shops and cafés. Our new roaster will allow us to level-up in terms of being able to support the current and potential demand.
We’ve been intentional to build generosity into our business model. For example, every bag of coffee sold provides a meal to someone in need through partnerships with local food banks like 2nd Harvest. Our Indaba Cares program involves showcasing an organization every First Friday doing good, and we give 10% of our sales that day directly to them. The Monroe Project will not only secure our ability to continue doing these programs, we plan to create more partnerships with organizations like the Hutton Settlement, Generation Alive, Big Table, and other organizations by giving a % of sales directly to them over time. As we grow, our giving grows.

Risks + Challenges
Funding our new roaster is paramount to the success of our business and to get our Monroe location up and running. We are prepared for each and every backer of our campaign to get exactly what they’ve signed up for (all the super-special prizes we’ve put together for you that help put cash into our Monroe funding-bucket).
We’re looking at the future we’ve paved for our business, and see our new roaster as the first stepping stone to meeting our goals. If we don’t meet our minimum threshold here on IndieGoGo, we will continue to do our best to raise funds elsewhere, and in the meantime, we’ll continue to serve high-quality coffee to our most favorite people (that’s you!), and thrive in every way we can.
