Who Be These Strangers?

Hello!  We are The Lilith, a party room at Convergence!  Which, as you know, is just about the raddest nerd convention in the Midwest happening every July.  We provide congoers with games, alcohol and an ambiance that inspires them to pillage and plunder with all the zeal a pirate should have!

We require some booty so that we can provide the alcohol, games and ambiance that Convergence attendees deserve.  Basically the more money we get: the better quality booze we can afford.

"But pirates, I don't drink alcohol!"

That's awesome!  We're also providing a non-alcoholic juice option.  This ain't no koolaid: we're actually mixing drinks for those who aren't old enough or just plain don't want to get all liquored up.  We got your backs.

What Plunder Do They Offer?

We need $1000.

"BLACKBEARD'S BOOTY, that's a lot!" you might say.  However, we need to pay for the hotel (three night stay, unfortunately not cheap) and all the alcohol.  Also, to get the beds removed (it's expensive to not have big, bulky beds in there...)  We also  need to rebuild the ships for Pirate Beer Pong.  You heard me right.  Pirate Beer Pong, where you set your cups on model ships and use cannons to shoot the ping pong balls.  It's great.  But we need new ships, as the old ones ran aground on some reefs the year before.

We also need decorations for the room.  While it's been fun to get away with a blank hotel room with vaguely piratey posters, this year we would like to make the experience more immersive.  What that entails will be entirely up to the funds we are able to raise.  These decorations will be used from year to year, so this will be the only time we need to make this expense.

But don't worry, if you scratch our salty, tattooed backs, we are there to scratch yours.  We'll have special drinks for our donors.  An invitation to the Captain's Table Party, a piratey potluck that takes place on the first night before the room opens.  Patches to sew onto your pirate vests.  Badge ribbons so you can tell everyone else how awesome we think you are.  Drinking mugs so you can gloat over your coffee.  All highly sought after items!

Our bare minimum to run the room is $1000.  We would like to meet it and maybe even surpass it so that we can have an AMAZING party!  Any money that doesn't get used is being set in an account for the next year, so when we come to you with hat in hand, we don't need to ask for quite so much.

Why Should I Care?

"Explain why your project is valuable to the contributor and the world."

Contributor... patron?  Benefactor?  No!  Privateer!  Whatever.  Person reading this with money in hand, why should you donate to us?

Well, running a party room isn't a cheap venture.  We think The Lilith provides an atmosphere to Convergence that you don't get at a lot of other conventions.  We aren't some rich organization that makes enough money every year to pay for our expenses.  We're just a couple of nerds who think it's great when we've got a packed hotel room full of people dancing and having fun.  We love watching teams trash talk each other over the Beer Pong and leave the room happier than when they enter.  We get giddy and bouncy when we have repeat customers.  Heck, last year - MONTHS after Con had ended - someone came up to me and complimented me on the room.

THIS is why we do it.  And this is why we pay for the party out of our own pockets.

But we can do more.  We know we can do so much more and are just limited by our small budgets.

But What if They Sail Off the Edge of the Earth?

It's hard to think of risks or challenges because there aren't really any.  The only risk is if we don't get enough donations and need to throw together a slapdash room with weak alcohol.  And nobody wants that.  But honestly, its as simple as: The more money we get, The better the party is.

We in the crew are all millenials in our mid-20's.  We'll be able to throw a party together with nothing if we ABSOLUTELY have to.  But that's not what Con is about, and that's not what we're about and we don't want to provide you with slapdash.  We want to provide you with plunder!

How Can I Help Without Money?

For one, you can share this campaign!  Stress to your friends how much you NEED us to make our goal!  Ask your rich uncle if he remembers his childhood dream of being a pirate, and if he could support some people with the same dream.

Work on your Beer Pong game so you can come and be amazing at our tournament!

But really.  Share this on your Facebooks... your Twitters... your LiveJournals.  Do people still MySpace?
