It is a mythical story from China, based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West. It's a story in which the Monkey King, Sun Wukong from Mount Huaguo, to find a satisfactory weapon, went from heaven to earth, fought alone against the group of gods with his skill of 72 Transformations, and finally smashed the Lingxiao Hall of Heaven.
The film was produced in 1964 and distributed by the French company Les Films de ma Vie (VHS). Hailed as the pinnacle of Chinese animation, it combines the most outstanding features of animation technology with the traditional Oriental painting style.

The inspiration drawn from ancient architecture, clay sculpture, frescoes, and opera was applied to the film art, creating a magnificent and ethereal fairyland. And the Monkey King with a peach-heart face, a classic image in the history of Chinese animation, came into being. It produced a far-reaching impact on animation at home and abroad.
The style of dialogue in the film lies between Beijing dialect and recitation, and the background sound effects are filled with the gongs and drums rhythm of Peking opera, full of national characteristics. The Kunqu opera interspersed during the film also produces a flexible rhythm. With the cooperation of many masters, The Monkey King: Uproar in Heaven has strong national characteristics. It has been nearly sixty years since its premiere, but the passage of time does not hide its brightness but makes its charm last long. It eventually became an excellent representative of Chinese animation and even Chinese culture.

All the suits and values on the face are replaced with illustrations, 54 of which correspond to 54 scenes in the film. Each illustration feels as if it evokes the gongs and drums rhythm of Peking opera from the movie, awakening the viewers' memory of the film.
By looking at the faces of the playing cards, we can see the Monkey King traveling to the East Sea, see him guarding the Peach Garden, see the hundred-thousands of soldiers in Heaven setting traps, and see the Monkey King causing uproar in Lingxiao Hall.

When designing the back of the card, we wanted it to be as close to the theme of "Oriental Painting" as possible and chose the traditional color combination of red, blue, white, and gold to bring a fresh feeling through the rich saturation. The cloud pattern and the Chinese characters "大闹天宫" (Uproar in Heaven) are interlaced, not only complementing the theme but also adding a lot of details to the image.
