Summary
Writer/Producer Stuart Cresswell, known for producing quality documentaries and short films such as: "The Bridge Rising" (BBC, 2012); "Painting the wilderness" (2010) and "Broken", has come up with a wonderful comedy feature film (100 mins) about a teenage boy with Asperger's Syndrome who has an uncanny gift for never failing to get out of the game of solitaire.
The film is to be directed by Cory Bowles (The Trailer Park Boys) and Executive Producer is Craig Cameron ("The Corridor", "The Disappeared", "Titanic").
This is a great, funny, unique coming of age love story. "Full of off the wall funny brilliance" according to one very experienced film industry professional.
We have a large cast of mainly young people and have been work-shopping with 50+ young people since April 2014. We hope to start some stars of the future on their careers with this film! Set on the beautiful north shore of Nova Scotia, we'll be shooting in summer 2015.
Our budget is a modest $250,000 and any money we can raise this way, will mean we can have the music soundtrack we want, and that we can spend more on marketing (we plan to screen at festivals around the world), and spend more in post-production to get a better 'polished' production.
If this film could become the "Gregory's Girl" for north shore Nova Scotia, we'll be happy!
What we needWe have secured finance for the film - but any money we can raise through crowd-funding will allow us to make the film better - or to reduce some of the finance required from other sources. Every cent or penny we get will help us towards both of these goals.
What You Get
Well, the most important thing you'll get is the warm, fuzzy feeling that you helped a really great little project get up to the next level. Or that you helped loads of young people have a truly great opportunity to have their talent recognized.
Yes, we can give you perks, and we'll keep you informed of all sorts of unique items as a way of saying "thank you" and "we love you". Great little gifts such as bottles of award-winning Jost wine with a special "The Only Game in Town" label. Signed posters or advance DVDs. Invites to screenings.
More than that, we can offer the chance to be in the film - either as an extra, or even a named character with at least a line of dialogue. Great little gift idea for someone...anyone!
You know, the simplest way to look at this is that you are buying a DVD in advance - okay with a bit of a premium - but look how much good that simple act could do!
Beyond that, we're the most friendly film-makers you've met. Once you're a friend you'll stay a friend and you feel like you're part of the family.
It has been said that making a film is like going into war. We don't buy that. It's fun and we want to share that fun - this great journey - with you.
The Impact
This film tells a story of boy, different because of his Asperger's symptoms, that falls in love with a girl far out of his league. But it's about his friendship with the three boys and how they stand by each other. Yes, it's a comedy, but one that will stay with you for all sorts of reasons.
The film will launch the acting careers of some great young performers and promote the wonderful north shore of Nova Scotia.
The team behind the production have years of experience in the film and TV world. Stuart Cresswell has written comedy plays for young people for 14 years. He was part of the team that launched a satellite TV channel in the UK. He has produced and directed some quality programs and documentaries, and short films such as "Broken".
Cory Bowles is part of the "Trailer Park Boys" team - and in recent months has begun to direct episodes of Canada's top TV series. His own short film "Righteous" received wide acclaim and was screened around the world at festivals.
Risks! Risks?? This is a feature film - there's no risk in producing feature films...well...we have a realistic and manageable budget, with full finance approved - all we're doing is trying to replace some of that finance with crowd-funding donations. Wouldn't it be great to have all of it raised through crowd-funding?
But the production team have been down this road before. We're confident of festival screenings around the world and hope to secure distribution as we get closer to production.
Other Ways You Can Help
Regardless of what you donate or take as a perk, please help us by spreading the word - let your facebook friends know, connect with us on twitter and all that, Or just drop us a line and ask if there's anything you can do to help.
