Who We Are:
I am the daughter of a hardworking independent farmer in
northern British Columbia. Lawrence (my dad) has been farming our 102 acre
horticulture farm for 35 years, taking over from his father before that. Lawrence's farmer-know-how lies in horticulture! We've long been famous for
our huge strawberry fields, raspberries, radishes, cucumbers, and my Dad's specialty, carrots! Our rich sandy loam soil, along with Lawrence's skilled hands have helped make our produce amazingly flavourful and sweet! In
addition to all of these delicious, organic crops, we’ve broadened our horizons
to include my mom, Penelope’s beautiful flower garden. Her traditional English
cutting garden brings happiness to the farm and our community! The flowers also fill our end-of-the-lane ‘Honesty
Stand’ with fresh flowers, something our community has been enjoying for years!
We’ve been embracing this amazing way of life for
over 2 generations, with techniques passed down from my grandfather. Our community is filled with passionate locavores, and we love providing them with the fresh produce they've come to know and love! My dad is a regular renaissance man able to fix anything you put in front of him, but our tractor, the life blood of our farm, is finally giving up! We need your help to bring back horticultural bounty to the farm and to allow my dad to continue the farming lifestyle!
The Tractor Trust:
Vintage might be in for clothes and home decor, but there is one place vintage doesn't belong...equipment. I've created the Tractor Trust to ask for help in funding for my Dad's new tractor. Now I know you might think that tractors last a long time and are incredibly durable...and you're right! But the catch is that my Dad's tractor is over 40 years old! It belonged to his father before him, and for all the years that my Dad has been farming and working the land, he's been working on his tractor too. Fixed tirelessly over the years this once proud red International Harvester has been a staple on our farms landscape, but it's finally time to put it to rest. While my Dad would probably continue to tinker and fix his machine, the fact of the matter is that it International doesn't even make the parts for it anymore. The Tractor Trust is a way for us to help save our farm, by re-invigorating the key aspect to any good horticultural farm...the tractor!
What Your Funds Would Go Towards:
A tractor! Tractors are incredibly expensive in todays economy and your funds would help this second generation farmer continue to work the land for many more years to come! We have large greenhouses that will increase our growing season and capacity, but in order to successfully till the soil and maintain crops we need a tractor that's up to the job, and my Dad's just isn't anymore. With the Spring season upon us and without a tractor, our farm will not be able to produce any of the crops we (or our community) rely on. The money we raise through this venture would allow my family to continue their luscious sweet strawberry crops, their profusion of flowers, and flavourful fresh vegetables!
Other Ways You Can Help:
We know that it might not always be possible to donate financially but there are other ways you can help!
