On the 6th of March 1995 the world said goodbye to one of its most original creatures, a true one off: Mr. Vivian Stanshall.

Vivian, who I'm sure most of you know, was the lead singer for the influential comedy/music (call them what you will)  Bonzo Dog Band.

After the band spilt in 1970, Vivian went on to write and to narrate (first for radio, then on album, then on film) his most beloved work, "Sir Henry At Rawlinson End" - the tale of the absurdly wonderful adventures of Sir Henry Rawlinson, his wife Florrie, his "unusual" brother Hubert, old Scrotum the wrinkled retainer, and Mrs E, forever "doin' for 'im".

Even now, 40 years later, Rawlinson End is loved by fans around the world.

I could talk on and on about the great works of Vivian (the solo albums, the guest spots and TV work), but let's get down to business...

Vivian has no proper memorial in the UK. Vivian's widow, Ki Longfellow-Stanshall and his daughter, Silky Longfellow-Stanshall, hope to change that.

We plan a memorial plaque for Vivian, engraved and placed in London's Golders Green Crematorium (where Vivian was cremated). We hope this beautiful and peaceful place will be somewhere Vivian's fans can go to pay respects and remember how much joy he bought to their lives.

Golders Green is also the last resting place of many other music legends, most notably, Vivian's good friend and Hell raising chum, Keith Moon (drummer for The Who).

To do this we need your help.

We need to raise £2,674 to pay for the marble plaque (£2,000), the hand carved inscription (£250 = £3.50 per letter), with a 50 year placement, and fees for the crowd funding (10% of money raised). The more we write on the plaque, the more it costs. For instance, his name = 15 letters. Date of birth = 11 letters. Date of death = 11 letters. Example description: Imagination is all I've ever called Home = 34 letters. This comes to 71 letters at £3.50 per letter = £248.50. If we want to say more, the more it costs. So we need wiggle room.

50 year plaque = £2,000 + Inscription = £250 + 10% for crowdfunding =  £225.  Wiggle room = £200 for more verbals. Total amount is £2,674.

What we say seems to depend on how much we gather for him.

Feel free to email me if you have any questions at vivianstanshallmemorialfund@yahoo.com

Please help and donate.

We don't know how long it will take to raise the money. We don't know if prices for things will change. We have a plan for any money left over....

All funds that are not needed will be sent to:

THE ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY OF LONDON...

http://www.zsl.org

An organisation so dear to Vivian's heart that he was a proud,  lifelong, card carrying member.

Please help make this happen so that Vivian Stanshall is treated with the love and respect he deserves.

Thank you, one and all...
