This campaign grew into something that was never imagined. We are now co-ordinating a kitchen in Calais that feeds upwards of 2,000 refugees a day. Rocket stoves were made and erected in community kitchens in Dunkirk. Thank you for all you support. You can visit us and see what we are doing at https://www.facebook.com/groups/RefugeeCommunit...
Thank you for your support you are all angels <3
I believe that bread ovens will not only be able to produce bread but also create communal areas where people can talk, keep warm and share experiences.
The refugees in Calais stand around with nothing to do and no resemblance of normality, They wait in queues for hours for food to arrive at the kitchens to find the food has run out. The Calais camp is mainly men who have invariably come from a societies where the women of the community do the cooking. The camps are disjointed and cold and there is no communal areas that are welcoming other than small shisha tents and the odd chicken shop which cost money.
What I want to do is build bread ovens all over the camp and do skill sharing workshops on bread making and building the ovens themselves. These ovens can not be permanent as the French authorities will not allow this. So I will be building basic brick ovens that can be moved and rebuilt. It is not just about bread for me. The aim is to help them help themselves.
The resources needed are simple
Fire bricks
Fire boards
Pizza stones
Flour
Salt.
Thank you for reading and helping
