About the Documentary
This documentary is about a young man, named Jomo Cousins. Jomo was a high school and basketball star in the early 90's. He never played football because he always wanted to honor his mother's wishes that he not play the game. She felt it was too violent. College expenses became to much for the family to pay, so Jomo told his mother he wanted to try out for the college football team to possibly get awarded a partial scholarship to match the current track scholarship that he was awarded. She reluctantly agreed and gave him her blessing. Jomo became one of the best defensive ends for Florida A&M during his time on the squad. Because of his determination, discipline and work ethic he was selected in the 1998 NFL draft by the Arizona Cardinals. Injuries he endured while playing in the NFL, XFL and the NFLE, caused him to have hang up jersey and leave the game. Now, Pastor Jomo Cousins, is well known in the local community (Tampa Bay/Riverview area) as the founder and Senior Pastor of Love First Christian Center.
In this documentary he shares some of the highs, the lows, the joys, the disappointments, the faith, the calling, and his inspirations of his life. Pastor Jomo is a very inspiring young man that has touched many lives in a positive way.
About Me
Hello, my name is Sharon and I am aspiring documentary filmmaker.
Although I served 22 years in the
United States Army, my passion has always been in film, journalism and media communications.
Now that I am retired, I can start the second chapter of my life and pursue my passion. I am an observer of the world
around me. I find the individual’s
experience of the world particularly fascinating. The documentary form of film-making attracted
me because it draws on the richness of a person’s life experiences as it
creates stories that move the viewer. I want to make an emotional connection to
the viewer through their stories. I am specifically interested in the stories
of those who may be considered “the underdog” or “the little guy.” Whether the
documentary is about a person being an advocate for a certain cause, or about a
struggling artist, everyone has a story to tell. Such stories have a way of drawing the
attention of people, and have them wanting to learn more about other people
stories, their struggles as well as their triumphs.
Through the years, I’ve watched a
few documentaries here and there, but not to the point where I could rattle of
titles and tell you what year they where released. One day I watched a documentary that
had me so intrigued. It
stirred me emotionally. “Dear Zachary; A Letter to a Son About His
Father,” by filmmaker Kurt Kuenne.
After viewing it, I said to myself, “this is
what I want to do.” I want to tell other peoples stories and hopefully one
persons past can help another person’s future in some unforeseen way. After all, we all share similar situations,
but the outcome may be different. I want
my documentaries to take you through the process of a person’s situation and in
doing so, you feel sympathy for them, cheer for them, hate them or be inspired
by them.
