We are the UCSC Women's lacrosse team...
And we're stuck in a bind. Our school can currently fund a certain number of sports teams, and women's lacrosse is not on the list.
The team was founded in 2009 by our very own Janine Sung. She put together a team all by herself, worked hard to get recognized as an official Division II team in the Western Women's Lacrosse League.
In 2012, our team placed 3rd in the entire league, and five of our players received All League Awards for their athletic performance. We were invited to Nationals, and although we didn't have the funds, it was still an honor to, after only 3 years, have made it to championships.

Our 2013 season proved to be even more successful, for we placed 1st in the league! 5 more of our girls were given All League Awards. Again, we were unable to go to Nationals. We’re hoping to change that this year.

What will we use the money for?
Without funding from the school, we do not get free use of our own field, we do not get transportation to away games, and we have to pay for our own tournament fees. Money that is donated to us will go towards:
- paying the school $700 per home game in order to use the field
- gas for the team members who have to drive us to our tournaments all the way in Santa Barbara
- fees that keep us in the league
- fees that allow us to play in tournaments
- plane tickets to Nationals, which are held in Colorado
We have worked so hard in order to be recognized in lacrosse communities all over California. Last year, we almost had to disband the team because we didn't have money to get to our away games. Luckily, some donations from a few generous parents saved us, and we were able to finish out the season.
We will not be that lucky this year. 5 of our games are at home, which amounts to $3500 in order to play on our own turf. And then, there's gas money and fees to be paid for our tournament and for championships, which are both held in Santa Barbara.

We need your help:
We aren't even allowed to fund raise on school property, so we've had to get pretty creative with it. Sometimes, popular restaurants around town will help us out, and although they've helped us stay afloat, it's never been enough to get us to Colorado for Nationals.
We would really appreciate your help, so here are our perks:
Those who contribute $10 will get:
-A signed lacrosse ball! 5 ounces of rubber that has broken more noses than a well-cleaned sliding glass door, with signatures from all of our grateful teammates!
Those who contribute $50 will get:
- An official UCSC women's lacrosse shirt! You can rep the amazing city of Santa Cruz and our wonderful lacrosse team all in one article of clothing! We've got some truly artistic and beautiful designs lined up!
Even if we don't reach our goal, and even if we still don't have enough to go to Nationals, every little bit counts.
As amazing as it would be to go to Colorado, as we've been invited to do for the past 2 years, our main goal is to be able to pay our fees just so that we can play our games. Because this is all about playing lacrosse for us. We love the sport, and we'd like to continue playing!
