*************************************

Meet Emma Zurcher-Long, a happy 13-year-old who loves to sing, perform on stage…and who is quickly becoming a well known name in the autism activism world.

For most of her life, Emma struggled to verbally communicate her feelings, her needs, and her fears. It was an extremely difficult time for her.

Two years ago, for the first time in Emma's life, her true voice was finally heard when she began to type. Using this tool, Emma has defied all expectations and is finally able to have her profound and poetic thoughts expressed and understood by those around her. Having found her voice, Emma blogs and advocates nationally for acceptance, tolerance, and understanding.

UNSPOKEN marks Emma’s debut as co-director.

"If every time you tried to speak, the wrong things came out of your mouth,

how would you feel?" - Emma.

I met Emma and her family in 2010. Over the past 5 years, we’ve formed a close-knit relationship. I’ve been privileged to witness the beauty of Emma's soul, and the hardships she’s bravely endured.

Emma is a vibrant, brilliant young woman. I deeply believe that the world deserves to hear her story. This documentary is not only about perseverance and hope, but serves as a crucial reminder that things aren't always as they seem: snap judgments hold us back from the possibility of many meaningful connections.

Committed to bringing Emma’s story to a large audience, I approached Julia Ngeow, a close friend and very talented film director. Julia was equally inspired with Emma's Zen-like approach to life and profound insight.

When Julia met Emma they had an instant rapport and we began shaping the narrative for UNSPOKEN. Together we approached design and social innovation organization Openbox who were thrilled to come on board as executive producers.

After over a year of filming on location in New York City, Washington D.C. and Manchester NH, we have crafted a creative vision that provides an insightful, first-person perspective of autistic neurology.

We’re excited to share this project with the world and continue to open minds.

  - Geneva Peschka, Producer.

It’s time for a change.

More often than not, the stories being told about autism are from the point of view of parents, scientists and medical professionals. It is integral that the story comes from Emma’s perspective, and in doing so, we will share a seldom revealed, unique viewpoint.

Emma’s story is one that reminds us that nothing is what it seems on the surface, beauty exists in our differences - and this variety should be celebrated.

We realize that it takes a village to create change and in helping to support UNSPOKEN you will not only be enabling this film, but the dialogue about Autism and how we look and treat one and other.

It’s now time for us to reach out to our community to help raise funds so we can complete this story and share it with the world.

Your contributions will help us finish this film.  The funds will go towards the tail end of shooting and post production.  This includes editing, sound design, score, graphics, color correcting, festival entries, PR and marketing to name a few.

Here's a pancake chart (Emma’s favorite treat) of how the funds will be distributed:

Aside from helping to make a beautiful much needed story come to life, we've put together a number of great perks just for you!

THESE INCLUDE: digital download of the film, personalized thank you card from the crew, UNSPOKEN totes, a personalized thank you message from Emma, a BIG THANK YOU in the film credits, handmade pottery by Emma, 2 tickets to the TASH Conference, invitations to our NYC movie premiere and more++++!

“I need people to understand what it is like to be autistic. I could be daring by saying that, but I think it is the only way others will become more tolerant of those of us who think differently than most, and it is an opportunity that both separates and connects.” - Emma.

A BIG THANK YOU FROM EMMA, JULIA & GENEVA.
