I'm a writer. My poems, short stories and essays have appeared in more than 250 publications, been anthologized, nominated and shortlisted for numerous prizes, and praised by luminaries including Norman Mailer and David Berman. I live in Brooklyn, New York, with my wife and daughter.
More than just a way to offer discounted pre-order copies of WATERSHED to people who have supported me all these years, this campaign will raise money to potentially produce a large-scale print run that will get WATERSHED into a wider range of bookstores around the country. It will also open up new promotional possibilities.
WATERSHED is the story of a troubled, pregnant woman, and the two men—a snake dealer with a sideline in secret messages and a billionaire living under a false name—who vie for her. As their struggle takes them through a near-future America of anti-technology enclaves and illegal hospitals, where stockbrokers moonlight as assassins, nurses procure obscure pleasures, a deeper, deadlier mystery emerges.
And it's getting some pretty great reviews.
“(R)eaders will never be quite sure what lurks around the next corner… An appealing mix of adventure and contemplation.” - Kirkus Reviews
“(T)he world of WATERSHED is a vibrant one, packed to the gills with absurd and yet oddly-believable detail – everything from a September 11th memorial service that involves a full-scale recreation of the original terrorist attack, to a man who gets off on being locked in a coffin with a bag full of cats... Dodds manages to make all this and more seem not just possible, but vivid and tangible too.... It’s the real deal…a strong contender to be one of the most interesting books you’ll read this year.” - IndieReader Reviews (4.7/5 Stars)
"The masterfully dystopian WATERSHED unpacks the future of a modern America that, while spectacular, nobody was expecting… It’s a future that, as Leonard Cohen sang, is murder. The revelations of prose in WATERSHED makes that murder enjoyable… one of the few things worth believing in.” - Two Thirds North
These days, t seems the only way to write fiction that's not out of date by the time it's finished is to have it take place in the future. That's what makes WATERSHED a topical and incisive adventure through a surprising but believable tomorrow. It's a uniquely optimistic look ahead.
WATERSHED is something I've been working on for years now. I'm proud of it. And while self-publishing is a demanding, labor-intensive venture, this book is worth it.
If you help, you will be supporting a noble endeavor. You will add to the stock of literature in the world. And I'll be grateful for your support.
What's more, I'll send you a reward, including a limited-edition copy of WATERSHED, produced exclusively for Indiegogo contributors.
Even if I don't reach the goal, I will still launch the book in May, with a smaller print run, and a less-extensive, more DIY marketing campaign. This will be the fifth novel I'll have published, and I've picked up a few tricks along the way.
And don't worry if you can't contribute. You can still help.
