Help us get to the races
After being shut down for 15 months, it’s really important to show our support for the Reno Air Races. That’s why we are bringing three vintage warbirds to participate at the races this year! The event takes place September 15 through 19, 2021 at Stead Air Field in Reno, Nevada. The Palm Springs Air Museum will race not one, but two renovated P-51 Mustangs: Bunny, which is painted with the Tuskegee Airmen colors, and designations from the P-51 that Lt. Col. Bob Friend flew in World War II during 140 combat missions, and Man O’ War.
Be Part of Our Race Team!
Your help will be going entirely to offset the expenses of this commitment. It is funded by the Palm Springs Air Museum which is a non-profit organization (Tax ID 33-0615350) and your participation helps greatly in allowing the Museum to continue its core mission of bringing history and pride to the public it serves.
Our modest goal is $20,000 for the purpose of offsetting actual costs which far exceed that amount. Much of the staffing is being done by volunteers who are taking on this project with incredible enthusiasm. But enthusiasm alone will not pay for fuel, spare tires and engine parts, gas for vehicles, hotel rooms, food and so much more. Which is why we really need you to be a part of the PSAM Team!
To show our appreciation to our donors and extended members of our Race Team, donations over $50 will receive a limited-edition collectible PSAM Reno t-shirt.
Our Planes
Racing alongside our Mustang and P-63 Kingcobra is the iconic Man O’War Mustang. This marks Man O’ War’s first appearance at the Reno Air Races. Man O’ War’s livery (414292/QP-A) is of the 334th Fighter Squadron of the 4th Fighter Group, the personal aircraft of Lt. Col. Claiborne H Kinnard, a highly decorated commander of the 4th Fighter Group, with 25 enemy aircraft destroyed to his credit.
This year marks the 2nd appearance for Pretty Polly, the P-63 Kingcobra, and the third appearance for Bunny. Both Bunny and Pretty Polly took home Silver Medals at the previous Reno Air Races in 2019.
About Palm Springs Air Museum
The Palm Springs Air Museum is one of the finest Air Museums in the world. Named in 2014 as one of the top 14 aviation museums in the world by CNN Travel, 59 flyable and static planes are on display inside four climate-controlled hangars totaling 86,000 square feet inside with more outside on the tarmac. Many of the Museum docents actually flew these planes and served on the ships. The four hangars are organized by theme, with related exhibits lining the walls. Currently under construction is a new hangar to house the F-117 Nighthawk.
