Amanda Needs New Leg Braces
Amanda Bennett was raised by parents that were addicted to drugs and alcohol and abusive in many ways. Throughout her life, she has conquered so many emotional obstacles, but many physical ones as well.
At birth, Amanda was diagnosed with Arthrogryposis. This is a neuromuscular-skeletal disorder that affects various joints in the body. The joints show contracture, stiffness, poor mobility or immobility, and muscle fatigue. One of the main causes of Arthrogryposis is too little room for the fetus to have normal movements. When a joint is kept immobile for a prolonged interval of time, a surplus of connective tissue develops around it, thus fastening it. There can also be other causes. This is a rare condition, and everyone who has it looks differently.
Amanda has movement at the elbow joint, but can only lift her arms a little bit, and her wrists are flexed. Her knee joints are completely fixed, and thus do not bend. This requires that she wear braces on her legs to give her the support that she needs to walk.
Amanda has had the same leg braces for 15 years. On her last visit to get new ones, her doctor gave her a price of $4000. Medicaid doesn't cover this, and Amanda desperately needs them.
We are asking for donations to help meet our goal to get Amanda new leg braces. Everything counts, even the smallest amounts.
Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this. For anyone who is just not in the place to give, we greatly appreciate your prayers.
