Our Story
For me and my family, popcorn isn’t just a business—it’s part of our family. We’re the Huslig’s and for about 8 years now we’ve owned and operated Andover Popcorn Company in Andover, Kansas. It wasn’t always called that though. Before January 1, 2012, our business was called Vic’s Corn Popper.
Our popcorn journey began in Omaha, Nebraska, where we lived before moving to Andover, Kansas. Our three boys loved taking trips to the local Vic’s Corn Popper store to enjoy their favorite snack. The idea soon struck that we could open our very own Vic’s Corn Popper. After completing the necessary training, we decided to set up our new store in Andover. We wanted our gourmet popcorn store to have that old fashioned “mom and pop soda fountain” feel to it. We offered over 20 different flavors of gourmet popcorn, popcorn balls, ICEEs, concession snacks and the largest tin and gift box selection in the area.
Since it’s opening in the summer of 2004 we’ve been on quite a roller coaster ride. In November 2011, we received notice that our licensing agreement to use the Vic’s name was not going to be renewed. We were given 6 weeks to find a new name, new logo, new vendor for packaging, new signage, etc. On January 1, 2012, Andover Popcorn Company was born. We created a new logo to brand the company and found new packaging bags that matched the sizes of our previous ones. We had completed all but one on our list of things that needed to be changed: our old Vic’s signs on our store.
That brings us to our Indiegogo Campaign.
Currently, there are banners with the new Andover Popcorn Company logo covering the Vic’s signs. Though we’ve been appreciative to have the banners, we know they won’t last forever and they don’t completely cover the signs. (visit our picture gallery to see what we mean)
This is where we need YOUR help. To get our store looking and feeling its tip-top shape like it was before, we need to raise $10,000 to cover costs from the following list of items:
- Two 2 ft by 18ft signs with Andover Popcorn Company logo
- Packing labels for new generic bags.
- National UPC/Barcodes for our packing (Necessity in getting our products into a national retailer for resale)
- A 3rd party audit of Andover Popcorn Company’s manufacturing processes (Necessity in getting our products into a national retailer for resale)
- Assist in opening up more distribution channels for our products.
Without your help, none of this will be possible. We want to make sure our company is successful for years to come. Local families and business have supported us for years and we’ve done the same for them.
