What Inspired 'Andy'?
Andy was an idea adapted from a short story by Jane Merrow. In 2018, Jane wrote and starred in a short film titled 'About Andy' which was a concept that developed after seeing how automation and technology was rapidly evolving, entering our lives and replacing jobs. Jane considered how technology may solve a crisis of loneliness in our ever ageing population. This short film set the groundwork for a much larger story and Jane began writing the feature length version of her story.
In 2019, Jane was cast in a horror feature titled "The Haunting of Margam Castle" (Netflix) where she first worked with Actor/Director, Jason Farries., who also starred in the film. After seeing some of the independent features created by Jason, Jane approached him with a pitch for Andy. Thus forming a partnership where the two have been working closely on developing the film and creating a powerful drama to entertain and ignite discussion around the potential effects of A.I on our lives.
