APAture is a multidisciplinary arts festival for emerging
Asian-Pacific American (APA) artists to develop their art, affirm their
voices, and share their work with the APA community.
![]()
For the past 14
years, Kearny Street Workshop's festival has shaped the culture of the San Francisco Bay Area
by addressing the realities and narratives of APA lives through the important space our festival provides: a space that belongs to us.
2016 marks APAture’s 15th year. We’re asking for your help in reaching our $2500 goal, ensuring our festival continues to allow emerging APA artists and communities to come together and hold this space for one another.

APAture is dedicated to showcasing new work from emerging APA artists
currently located in the Bay Area. It is the only festival of its kind,
and an important lifeline for our artists, all of whom are currently at
the beginning of their artistic careers.
Our festival is
multidisciplinary: we feature talent in film, literary
arts, music, performing arts, comics and illustration, and visual arts.
Our festival consists of six artist showcases (one for each genre). Every showcase is headlined by one featured artist, who presents a new work or
piece not yet shown to the public.
Our featured artists for APAture 2016 are:
Nina Vichayapai, Visual Arts
Krystle Ahmadyar of Ruby Mountain and Los Sirenas, Music
Trinidad Escobar, Comics and Illustration
Jade Cho, Literary Arts
Sammay Dizon, Performing Arts
Việt Lê, Film
All of our featured artists receive an artist honorarium for their work, and showcase artists receive a small stipend.

We're looking to raise funds to contribute to 57% of the cost APAture, or approximately $13,300. This amount does not include grant-funded paid time staff. The funding breakdown for the festival is as follows:
![]()
As we are a non-profit, we are completely reliant upon grants and individual donations from generous people in the community, so this fundraiser is especially important for us, and every single dollar we raise will be put towards the festival.
Please note that our target for the campaign is far below our total cost; this ensures that every dollar will be put toward making up the
$13,300 we need to fund the festival, regardless of whether we come up short, meet our goal, or exceed it.

APAture is a production of Kearny Street Workshop (KSW), the oldest APA
art non-profit in the Bay Area. Our Artistic and Managing Directors,
Jason and Rachel, form the core staff of KSW, but the majority of the
APAture team is composed of a volunteer General Planning Committee
(GPC).
![]()
The
GPC is a diverse mix of volunteer artists, educators, and students
committed to creating spaces for APA art and artists here in the Bay
Area. Together, we engage in the outreach, planning, solicitation,
selection, and running of all APAture events. And we do this for free!
This festival is a labor of love, and we are very happy to bring it to
you, our community.
