Short Summary
I am a settler from Masvingo, Zimbabwe, displaced by Robert Mugabe’s land policies. I have started a small Biltong & Game mail order business in Chipping Norton. The business sells biltong, droewors, boerewors, game meat and other groceries to UK residents from southern African countries – mostly via a Facebook page on the internet and by e-mail.
We now aim to highlight the benefits of biltong and game meat for the rest of the UK market and help promote healthy living in the UK by making biltong & game meat more accessible and convenient to eat.
I really feel, as a business, it is our responsibility to ensure that while snack/convenient foods are becoming a large part of our daily diet & calorie intake, that there are more healthy alternatives on the market for the consumer to choose from!!
For too long now, healthy foods have been either too costly or inconvenient for a fast paced life! NO LONGER! With biltong having half the fat and twice the protein of nuts, there is no excuses to eat junk!
We aim to bring other healthy foods like droewors, boerewors, pronutro & maize meal to the UK market
We will expand the range of healthy snack foods available to the British consumer by introducing a conveniently packaged new range of low fat, high protein Biltong snacks that we will sell to the trade. Ie. Butchers, farm shops, deli's, petrol stations and much more.
Conveniently packaged, biltong can be taken anywhere making it ideal for Campers & caravaners, ramblers, twitchers, fishermen, hikers, mountaineers, Scouts & Guides to mention just a few and as Biltong is a high protein, low fat energy snack its perfect for slimmer’s, body builders, all sports men & woman and you.
Protein: Biltong – 44.8g per 100g, crisps +- 4g per 100g and nuts, thought to be “protein heaven”, +-28g per 100g.
Fat: Biltong - 8.25g per 100g, crisps +- 34g per 100g and nuts, +-53g per 100g.
Calories: Biltong - 259kcal per 100g, crisps +- 560kcal per 100g and nuts, +-600kcal per 100g.
What We Need & What You Get
At this stage we need to educate the consumer as to what Biltong is and the benefits of eating biltong in today's world.
I aim to get Biltong & Game Direct into 4 markets a month across the Cotswolds and into at least 2 summer festivals to generate awareness about the product and the business as a whole.
We are also in the process of developing a full e-commerce website to simplify ordering & payment for the consumer.
As Biltong is a premium meat product, we need to keep our costs to the consumer at an absolute minimum for this snack to have a chance in the UK market so we need to invest in a large amount of stock to get the best price.
Cost Breakdown
Marketing & event promotion - $7,000.00
This includes all printed and electronic marketing, events promotions and banners/signage.
Stock & Packaging - $4,500.00
By investing in this amount of stock we will reduce our costs by 10% to the consumer and get us enough free samples from the manufacturer to help us with promotions.
Event equipment - $3,500.00
We will invest in high quality event equipment to use during the promotion and education events. This includes a marquee, tables, power generation, refrigeration, cooking equipment & sundries.

If we do not reach our full goal for funding we will however still be able to invest in stock or promotions and will get the ball rolling!
